Shorter midwest ship times.
Unofficially, BMW is building another VPC to handle Central Region dealers in Baltimore. This may be open in 2009 and can cut down delivery times to places like Chicago, Milwaukee, Minnesota, etc. by 1 day as opposed to shipping those units out of Greer, SC. The only midwest vehicles to ship out of Greer will be units built in the plant. This is mostly speculation but it makes sense for BMW to do this. Currently the units are unloaded in Charleston, SC then railed upstate to the Greer facility to the VPC. In Baltimore, there will be no need to rail any vehicles which cuts down on standing times and of course, damages. I will keep everyone posted as more info becomes available and verified.
