1.04 is the production date (using the european day/month/year) and 1.06 is "sw" - which people guess means "software." I looked into this and 1.06 CAN NOT be used to tell you which progman you have. if you wanna know what all of the other numbers mean, check out: http://e90.wetpaint.com/page/BC+hidden+menus - the most useful thing about the hidden menus is there are 2 menus - 1 gives you the actual speed in KM and the other gives you the speed displayed on your dash in KM, so if you set it to cruise control, you can tell how much your speedo is off exactly.

my 1.06 says 79.50.81 - my car is pre v81 and pre 29.2. But like i said, i found out that 1.06 won't tell you the progman number.

there used to be a hidden menu in the idrive system that would tell you your progman (saw this on older 5 series), but they don't have it on the 3series, so i doubt we have it.
