To Tint or not to Tint
That is the question.
My current car has no tinting. I've been driving for 10 years in it without. Does Tinting go well with Alpine White? I would like to know how many 1ers have tinted their windows. Does it help reduce material degradation on the interior? Also - what kind of tinting would be a major faux pas? Mods: please relocate post if this isn't the right forum. |

Alpine White + Dark Tint =
As soon as my car arrives I plan on getting tint. I know it cuts down on interior heat, a lot. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=261664 |

I'm going through the same thing right now. The pictures of seen with of the Alpine with a tint look amazing, and I find already that the interior gets HOT in the sun.
The main thing holding me back at the moment is the fact that its a lease, and by the time it expires (2 years) I may want a new toy again. Then again, 2 years is a long time and tint is really not that expensive... decisions, decisions

I had my AW tinted at 55% which is pretty light. Personally I don't care for dark tint on white cars, it cuts them in half and looks like it has black holes for windows. That's just my take.

I just did mine after waiting a whole year. Do it!!!! No rergrets. My car is due back next june (if i can part with her). Easy removal. It's a lease so don't be super anal about it being perfect. Just get. Quick.
BTW I got 35% and it looks killer. A lot cooler when I get in on a hot day. Oh, did I mention the car looks way better...

Since everyone already stated the pros I will offer some Cons:
- Visibility at night depending on level of tint. Tint reduce the visibility of other car's headlight in the blind spot. - Cop magnet and compounded if you drive without front plate. Privacy? Got something to hide? Let me check the trunk. - Fade or bubbling issue 10-20 years down the line if you keep the car for that long. Making sure your passenger don't scratch the tint - Radio reception / CA issue depending on the material of the film. |

And what is involved in removing the tint (cost, work effort), if not done properly will it make any permanent marks? |

Tint creates some issues as described above and are a mess to remove should you need/want to do so. Consider the BMW shades. They are tight mesh and fit securely in the back side and rear windows. I had them on my mini and got them for my 135. Very classy looking, provide excellent shade, and no issues with reception, auto mirror, etc. They easily remove and fold should you want to remove them for any reason. See Andy M's post in the DIY section. I highly recommend them.

I'd like to see more feedback on the issue of tinting reducing the effectiveness of range with remote (and Comfort Assist).
feels like a deal breaker to me. |

Get them ( if your not already convinced by all these posts). It is a little harder to see because the lights of other cars at night reflect off the tints with 20% but its definitely worth it.
