▀▄ eas | Macht Schnell Ashtray Gauge Panels - Sneak Peek (and Gauge Poll)
Some of you may have already seen this on display at Bimmerfest 09. These are rapid-prototype pre-production photos of upcoming ashtray gauge panels for e8x 1-series BMW. Gauge panels will allow three 52mm gauges and replace your factory ashtray using the factory mounting locations, with finished production units made from injection molded ABS plastic and an estimated arrival date of July ‘09. Gauge Selection: I'm interested to what opinions are out there for your top 3 gauge choices in your 1er (boosted or normally aspirated) given the following choices: Boost Vacuum Boost/Vacuum (combo) Intake Pressure Water Temp Exhaust Gas Temp (EGT) Oil temp Oil Pressure Fuel Pressure Voltmeter Feel free to write in your own selection and reasoning if needed. Let's discuss. Edit: 06.24.09 - Official pictures released today: We should be seeing these arriving in stock in approximately a couple of weeks. Pricing to follow.

as there is a known issue with HPFP, maybe a fuel pressure gauge would be a good option to identify early if it is failing. other wise I would go for:
1) Boost / Vacuum (but not in the range in the above picture. 30PSi... I WISH !) Probably a 15 PSI version (approx 1 bar) 2) Oil Pressure (a must have in my opinion on any engine) 3) a difficult one..... probably water temp or voltmeter (we already have Oil Temp)

wow simply stunning! Finally somebody makes a decent boost gauge for us 1series owners... Any possibilities of a groupbuy to start things off?
And EGT is def. a great gauge to have on our turbo engines, the only question I have is where would u recommend us tapping into the exhaust system to get an accurate reading? How hard will install be for these?

I want one.
1. Boost or boost/vacuum combo (at least 20psi that 30 would be fine seeing 16 psi is not an unheard of level for these cars) 2. Oil pressure 3. Water temp |

This looks great, what color are the gauges with the lights on? Will it match our current color scheme on the dash?

I assume this results in a loss of functionality in the ash tray.

1. Water Temperature
2. Oil Pressure 3. Boost/Vacuum How about mounting the gauges in the blank panel just above the ashtray? I wouldn't miss the ashtray but as long as there is available space. |

I voted for oil pressure, fuel pressure, and water temperature. A boot guage would be cool, but since this is located out of the driver's line-of-sight, it would be completely useless. Probably cool for your passengers, but I wouldn't recommend taking your eyes off the road when you're in full boost. Just my 2 cents.

Oh man that's nice!
Would you offer this for the M3 (3 series?) ashtray also? According to my CA, 03/2009 onwards production 3 series no longer have an ashtray with cigarette lighter socket, so it's pretty much useless now. I'd put something like this in my upcoming M3... just make it black or match the outside colors... |
