Tint Questions
I am guessing this has been covered before...just can't find it. Can someone answer the following with pics if possible?
I am going to get my windows tinted today, and I am wondering what sort of gap they leave at the top to account for the frameless windows going down and up when you open the door. Also, what did you guys do to deal with the "dot matrix"? Did you stop the tint at the edge of the dots, or did you have the shop file down the dots to make the tint stick? Thanks! |

I don't believe it's necessary to leave a gap at the top. I've always had the tint place tint over the dots. As long as it's not a 6" wide strip of dots, most shops can make it look presentable.

On my Accord, I had them stop at the dots. I have seen the white splotchy look and I want to avoid that for sure.

On my 128i the tint goes all the way up with the exception of maybe a mm or 2
BMW installed it, and I think its slightly lower so that when the window opens everytime the door does it does get wrecked? |

Just got mine done yesterday - no more gap needed for the frameless windows it appears. Looks awesome with the black and keeps it a TON cooler.

Mine don't have gaps either. No interference at all when the windows auto seal during open/close.
The DOT matrix is a bitch. You can take a credit card or vinyl applicator to spread the tint down around the matrix while the tint is still curing. However, this will prove to be a painstakingly tedious and boring task. I just left the bubbles, it's really not that noticeable and it's pretty much expected on German cars. ![]() |
