So it looks like my dealership LIED to me!!!!
Hey guys,
I was just browsing some pictures of the interior thread, and I noticed something...my "boston leather" doesnt look like anyone elses! Firstly, most people with Boston Leather seem to have an extra stiching on the bolsters, like so: The door inserts are different too!! I found this picture, and this is EXACTLY what my interior looks like: According to my bill of sale, im supposed to have boston leather: I have, PREMIUM PACKAGE, COMFORT ACCESS, MSPORT, SIRIUS. I have all the stuff that premium package comes with such as the garage door openers, but my seats arent leather?!?!?! What should I do? I've had the car for about a month, and put on 4K Km. I honestly wont be able to live with just a monetary reimbursement of my money, i want LEATHER! please help! Sad thing is that I actually believed that my seats felt that way because they were "boston" leather, now I dont even feel like sitting in my car. Its as if your girl slept with someone else, you just dont feel the same way about her anymore! Also, I heard someone say the best way to test leather is to poke it! If it wrinkles its leather, if it doesn't then its 'ette. Please tell me im wrong and i have leather! |

Just got my 123d last Friday.
My Boston Black looks the same as yours, and it IS leather. Could it be because we have the 2010 version...? E |

OK then.
But what is actually different than the other cars on this forum? Can you post a pic of another car to compare? It seems leather to me, no...? |

taken from an online review: "boston leather" my car looks more like this: this is a e90 with leatherette (looks like the 1st image in my first post) Notice that the leather has a more "relaxed" look to the seat, whereas the leatherette its more tight, and fitted; does not wrinkle! |

It is the same across the board from my research. Upgraded leather interiors seem to have the stich on the door inserts and seats. Leatherette does not. Those were just the best pictures i could find of the seat surfaces. |

It looks like you have been given leatherette and not Boston sports seats?
My Boston leather seats are as you describe.

AFAIK Boston refers to the dimpled effect on the surface of the leather. Your's looks like the smooth Novillo leather. Don't know about the US market but BMW don't offer leatherette in the UK / Europe?

That's 'ette for sure. Leather has seams on bolsters and door as you described. I can see from there, it's too "taught", no wrinkles at the seams.
Compare the seat to arm rest. The arm rest is 'ette no matter what. You sure you actually have Prem package? I thought I caught a manual seat adjust lever. Premium PKG has power seats, unless that's also dif for your market. I'd demand re-upholster or new car. That's unacceptable. Some people don't mind the 'ette, but I'm personally not a fan of BMW 'ette at all, not nearly as nice as VW or Merc 'ette. |

Was it sitting on the lot for 6 months, or is it pre-owned? Your pictured seats are 100% definitely leatherette. No question about it.
If it was pre-owned, then it's possible the former owner traded with somebody else. Either that, or the dealership swapped them out, or the factory messed up. Figure out which of the three happened, and base your next steps on that tidbit of info... I would not accept reupholstery as an option. unless the person doing it is being paid to do top-notch work (not likely the case), it will not look stock, and could easily hurt resale. |

If you got the Comfort Package (includes electric seats), your sport seats should also have the lumbar adjustment, as this is not available on the normal sport seats. This sounds suspiciously like a dealer swap out - to close a sale on another car. The premium package Includes: Heated Steering Wheel, Glass Sunroof, BMW Assist with Bluetooth Wireless Technology, (Includes 1 year of Safety and Security Package), and Boston Leather. Check with BMW Canada - as for confirmation of your VIN Number and what options you should have. If the seats were swapped, then ask your dealer nicely to replace the seats with what the vehicle came with from the factory - or you will report the dealer to BMW CA. Remember - it would only take the dealer 15 minutes to swap the seats in the first place. Don't forget to ask about the rear seat as well. Last edited by Lester; 09-28-2009 at 10:14 AM.. |

I would take either cash or swapped seats.
That's it, do not accept to get the seats redone

This is what I suggest you do mate - take your girl out to a quiet, scenic, secluded place. Turn on the stereo with some quiet, romantic music. Relax and recline the seats back. Now run your fingers gently over her skin. Gently stroke her seams, massage her bolsters. Give a playful pinch on her bottom. Now get close to her. Bring your nose right up against her body. Explore, partake of the perfume of her natural scent. By now you should know if she's the woman you always thought she was. (Oh wait, we're talking cars here, right?) If you are referring to adjustable thigh support - you are WRONG. My car is leatherette and its adjustable. It looks just like the seats in my car.

if you have msport and you have premium then you should have the extra stitching, unless leather is not part of the premium pack where you are. the best way to tell for those that cant tell by the feel is by smell, does the car smell like leather or not. my bros 128i with leather still smells as it did day one, my 135i with leatherette has lost much of the new car smell
