My estimate would be $10k less than a base M3 coupe. So yes, just shy of $50k. I also feel that it'll have far less options offered than most BMWs... Kind of a "back to basics" kind of car.
Just my $.02 though.

Considering my back to basics, no frills, '99 M Roadster started at 41K 10 years ago, I doubt the M1 will be under 48K.

As I said in the other post, I'll bet a $47-48k starting price for the M1
Maybe $49k if it's not released until 2011 as a 2012 But I'd HOPE it would be $47k at most even then, I mean, for fuk sake it was only 4 years ago that the M3 was $50k to start. |

I agree--and easily approaching 55K with some decent options....

My guess (and that's all it is) is that we'll see a base price of $50k, but most customers will be pushing $58k by the time they get finished checking boxes.
A base 328i starts at $36.5k and the M3 starts at $55k. A base 128i starts at $29.5k so if we add $20k to it we'd be just under $50k If we add 50% to it (which is pretty close to the premium the M3 gets over the 328i) we'd be looking at $45k. My gut feeling is that the $50k number is close to reality. |

I know we're talking apples to oranges in a lot of ways, but the Corvette Grand Sport is A LOT of performance for the $$ (as are used Z06s)... I'm guessing it won't be QUITE on that level of performance, but would be willing to sacrifice some of it for the creature comforts and luxury that BMW offers.

The point I was trying to make is that the fact the 335is is priced at $50K which is outrageous by the way is actually good news for us, because they cannot price the M1 higher than that IMO especially after the announcement was made that they want to make this model affordable... I say it will come in at $46-47K

What does that^ car, have to do with the M1 pricing? Their focus is somewhat different.. there is already an M3, remember? The 335is has no bearing on the new M's price. |

There is a relationship between the pricing of the various series in the BMW lineup
The M model of a series comes in halfway between the middle and top variants of the next series up For instance, the M3 starts halfway in price between a 535i and a 550i That is my reasoning for saying that the M1 should come in at somewhere between a 335 and a 335is and will not be more expensive than the top of the line non M 3 series Just speculation of course |

If a 45K number is to be believed, then the car would not have many amenities at all....which would please some, but probably not the masses....
