DIY help: ashtray lid not closing smoothly

Did anyone ever have the ashtray lid getting jammed by a coin or dislodged by a coin, and the lid no longer closes smoothly? I think the coin itself dislodged the lid, and it no longer opens or closes smoothly, its like the lid has been disconnected.

dealer trip is out of the question as I have too many mods to take out and would rather pay someone to fix it (or DIY) rather than have the dealer address it.

You may want to review the DIY for removal of the console. It has a lot of pictures and you may be able to get an idea of what is going on - or learn how to fix it - by reviewing the DIY. The other thing that may be useful is to review RealOEM pictures of the console with parts "exploded" to see how the mechanism goes together.

yeah i have a coin in mine as well, keeps it from opening all the way. Annoying, and nothing will get that coin out of there. Guess i gotta remove the center console then.. sucks. Is there any aftermarket trays that dont have lids and looks good?

You have an ashtray? Wow, that is something I am missing in my 135i

I am just gonna get the utility box to replace my busted ashtray assembly and drill a hole and fit my 12V outlet in it. Gives me a good place to throw my sunglasses too!
