Just got mine in the mail, look forward to the install tonight, should be fairly easy thx to the great write-up.

BTW, for those on the fence, Morristown BMW is running a special on Ebay, $195 for the coupe, $140 for the convertible (+ $10 shipping). This is better than anything currently, by a mile. I think it is right around the GB from a yr ago, and BMW has increased pricing significantly since then. Jump on one while they still have them (at last count there were about 7 left)

Installed mine over the weekend. The interior motion sensor and hood switch were a 5 min job each. The siren part took longest, I decided not to remove the tire, just jacked it up. In fact, it wasn't necessary to remove the entire wheel well liner (don't need to remove the bitch clip or last bolt IMO to do it). Here is what I can add:

Make sure you do not overtighten the 3 bolts on the bracket holding the siren to the chasis. One snapped on me, even though I really didn't think I was using excessive force. No biggie, it was the middle one, the 2 side ones are sufficient.

My cabin light assembly was a bit different that the one pictured. I have 1 central bulb, the one pictured has 3, seems like reading lights for the rear passengers? Perhaps part of Premium or some other package I don't have.

The clown nose works (flashes 20 times before going to once every 3 secs). The hood switch doesn't trigger the alarm without programming, but the motion sensor works without programming (e.g. if you drop the windows, lock the car, then after 2 mins poke your hand into the cabin the alarm is triggered). I didn't test if the tilt sensor works without programming.

I attested how sensitive the alarm is. The siren went on madly when I parked my RS4 next to the 135i Granted I have a de-resopnated Milltek exhaust on it, but didn't think it would rattle the car that much!

I'll see if I get it programmed, will need to disconnect the JB3, boost gauge, etc. when I go to the dealer so may be too much hassle. Let's put it this way, the serious theives will go around ANY alarm. I am happy with the clown nose only, as it will deter (hopefully) kids and ill-minded people just wanting to mess/vandalize around. And I don't have to double check if I locked the car or not, the clown nose will tell me that. Often been paranoid and gone back to the car just to double check I indeed locked it, no more paranoia!

Installed mine today. Piece of cake. When I think back, the biggiest problem was to remove light for a motion sensor. I was pullin wrong side. Then I just sit on back seat, slightly pulled on front part ant it was out. Very funny. Clown nose flashes, I haven't tried the rest, so far so good. I'll try to talk to the dealer, but if the difference is just chirp when locking, I don't need it.
Now getting ready to buy and install Power Box. Wish me luck.

Im going to be ordering mine soon. Just bought a 128i and I have all the previous service history so I will be checking to see for any software flashes. I do not intend to pay for programing. I will check A&L, P&W, Bobby Rahal, Johnston BMW, and Sewickley BMW. I think I will just call them and tell them it stopped functioning and I want it fixed for free under warranty. X)

Easy install thanks. As of programming. A&L BMW says 3hrs $300(very rudly I must add), P&W says 1 hr $98, swickely bmw 1 hr $98, and Bobby Rahal were I bought the car 1hr $90. I feel like these prices are redic for programing! I may just wait till I take it in for service.

Dropped mine for a reprogram. Dealer will charge 1 hr labor, which seems the norm, but to retrofit it he needed to update the car's software, which took him...4 hrs! Had to leave the car overnight (won't get charged for that obviously, but just seemed way too long!)

You don't need any help...trust me it is really one of the easiest installs you can do. The front switch under the hood takes 5 minutes at most and all you need is a phillips screwdriver, the one under the center interior light takes 5 minutes at most....just pop it out and it plugs right in (no way to plug it in wrong). The siren under the driver side rear wheel may take the longest but only because you have to jack the car up a little bit. Trust me you could train a monkey to do it

What he said ^^^ One of the easiest DIYs you'll do.

PS: You don't even have to take the wheel our, nor the entire liner, you can cheat a bit and still get it done.

Does anyone know if this can be done for every year model? I ask because I believe I read somewhere that post 2009, the cars do not come prewired any longer. I have a 2011 model. Thanks!

I am also curious about as I own a '11. I went to dealership I purchased the car from and they said there isn't an alarm available for the '11s yet. This doesn't seem accurate to me. Any insight?

2011 is probably not prewired as I was looking for the under-the-hood wire shown in the pics of the DYI and my car does not have such wire. Also, the so called clown nose is black in my car - from what I understand it is red in the cars that come equipped with the alarm or prewired for it.

If anyone finds anything out for the 2011 model please let me know. I called my dealer today and they said that with the exception of some 7-series cars, almost all new BMW's on the lot do not have an alarm on them. Not sure how valid this is.

My 11 has the clown nose hanging from the mirror and it is not black. More of a dark tinted translucent plastic with a red LED inside.

Very interesting. I wonder if this changed depending on month of production, or if it comes prewired based on what packages the car has. If you don't mind me asking, can you tell me what packages your car has? Also, is it 6mt or auto?

Thanks!

My clown nose also has what seems to be the same dark tint. I have auto, premium, winter and sport package. I'm interested to see if it depends on the package. It frustrates me to not know if my car is locked or unlocked. Even without installing an alarm they could have put a setting the Idrive to honk the horn when the car locks/unlocks.
On another note I haven't had time to check for pre-wiring I will later tonight.

From what I have been reading, no car past 2009 is prewired...chances are yours is not either
