Slightly OT, but related: I've got a 2011, and appreciate that the visors are much cheaper than I had in my 2007 335. I'm curious, did the first years of the e82 have higher quality visors and it is now a cost-saving measure? If so, can they be swapped out? Thanks.

Lots of cost saving meaures in the 1er. For instance, my nearly $47k 135i Cab doesn't have vanity mirror lights....no joke. My parents 1983 Oldmobile Cutlass Supreme had nice, adjustable vanity lights and my BMW doesn't. Go figure...
