BMW 1 Series Changing 1st to 2nd Gear
Hi,
I have a BMW 1 series 2006, i notices that when i change from the 1st gear to the 2nd gear - at 2000 REVS, the car makes a strange noise from beneath- as if the engine cant hold the car. The noise is like metals clinging with each other. Also the same noise happens when i am on the 3rd gear... slows down ( eg roundabout) and press the gass again to move... Any ideas ? Thank you in advance |

Wouldnt shifting at 2000 RPM be kind of bogging the engine?
I usually shift between 3k and 4k under normal driving. Much higher if I'm going for a quick launch...

It is a 2006, what? 116, 118, 125? How many miles? Have you changed the differential and transmission fluids? If you have more than 50k miles on the car, I would do this, and maybe even look at the shifter bushings to make sure they are not wearing out. 2000 rpm is pretty low for shifting unless it is a 135i, even my old Z3 coupe would stutter and bog at that rpm in higher gears. (It wanted to rev). Try changing the fluids and shifting at 3000 rpm on a regular basis to see if that helps at all.

I'm thinking you're describing the known problem in 1-series and 3-series caused by the clutch delay valve. Feels clunky and makes a ton of noise? If that's it, then it's normal. Or did it just recently start?

I've noticed something similar. Although I haven't felt as something was wrong. But this is after 9 years of driving Acura 6mt. BMW, to me, seems to be clunky. And I've noticed if I slow up quick shifts, the smoother the drivetain reacts (CDV maybe?)

I've noticed the same thing too mii. I don't think it can be anything else other than the CDV giving us smoother shifts if we slow down the shifts.
