Eh - just use the OEMs and buy nice wheels for the summer.

Dont really want to use 18" rims for winter use. I like the MSport rims and dont mind using them for non winter use.. Maybe Ill feel differently when I take delivery tomorrow.. Im leaning strongly toward the Elbrus 102 for winter use. I think they look best on the car according to the tire rack 'view on car' feature.

I like my 261s too. But IMO if you're gonna get new wheels, get a good looking set. Not just a garbage set for slush and junk. If you want winter wheels, just get steels or the like. my .02, miiipilot

Motegi FTW,
the wheel cap is ugly though, and it's more chromy than the image you have. You will need a set of spline nut lugs for these. Waiting for my BMW black carbon wheel caps, should look nice.

Those wheels look pretty solid, and fairly light weight for a 17x8 wheel. I'm considering them for my AW 135i that will most likely be delivered right in the middle of winter.

They look pretty good. What size wheels/tires did you get? Maybe its an optical illusion, but it looks in the pic like the fronts are either flush, or sticking out slightly of the front wheel well? Im down to the Motegi and the Elbrus 102. Pictured on the car at tirerack, I think the Elbrus look the best... but the Motegi might be easier car with brake dust and all... Seems the required lug bolts are included, so thats a help.

With a black wheel, you won't be worried about brake dust. It's the salt and sand that gets caked onto the wheels that shows. I run black Rota's on my WRX in the winter and they look terrible after a few weeks of driving. They're winter wheels though, they're supposed to look dirty

Look at the elbrus 102 on the vehicle pic at tirerack.. I think they look the best, and by far, easiest to clean, although the Motegi are still in the running!

Personally, for the 17"ers I like the ASA GT1 or the OZ Ultraleggera better then any of the ones listed, but you know what they say about opinions.

Personally, I went with the Elbrus, mostly b/c they were the least-expensive wheel that I thought looked halfways-decent. YMMV.
The black-finish wheels go well with Alpine White, especially if you have the blackline grilles, too. |

Motegi because they have the least amount of open area. With a 5 star wheel there is a large area for snow and ice to get inside the wheel, freeze up, and throw off the balance when driving. With a winter wheel you really want at little open space as possible.

They are slightly more massive then the previous tire, even if the rims are smaller, it's slightly wider, but nothing of concern. These are the 17" rims, I don't know what size of tires, anything that fits... I just received my wheel caps . Pictures coming after a little wash.

I ordered a set of the Motegi's with 215/45R17 Dunlop Winter Sport M3s and should receive them tomorrow at some point. I'll put up pics after I mount them up on Saturday. And I agree with Tritonx, the included centercaps look terrible, so I have to source some BMW ones that'll fit. |

I wound up getting cheap 17" alloys for winter tires. They get beat up by the salt, but they work. 18" snow tires on stock wheels would be a lot more expensive, destroy the stock wheels after a few winters, and the replacement summer wheels will be more expensive, too. |

The caps I had on my OEM wheels fitted perfectly, so you can use those. I ordered some custom caps that were supposed to be perfect fit for E36(they are the same than ours) but the vendor screwed up the description. Those I got are slightly smaller, I glue them with silicone, it's not too apparent. Got into an argument with the vendor because he said perfect fit for E36 but they were not. Is there 2 size of OEM wheel cap for E36?
