"Sticker" Shock
From what I have been reading into on this forum about the 1M and the cost of it, seems like a lot of people are feeling sticker shock that the price will be around/over 50k in real world terms, after some options albeit being limited in scope. I especially notice that this is more so with the people who are "new" to BMWs, in part because of what they are comparing it to (EVOs, STIs, Mustangs, Camarros, etc.). IMHO, I think current or prior BMW owners are somewhat "use" to this because of prior knowledge of BMWs "practices". Basically what I am saying is that I think this will be more of a car for current BMW owners rather than one for new BMW owners. I plan to buy this car and the guesstimated price won't turn me away from it but it will for a lot of other potential new BMW buyers IMO. I realize there is just a better fit and finish/quality to BMWs than many other cars and that the everyday enjoy ability is just higher.

I'm not shocked, yet.
If it is over $55k I will be shocked, but after reading a couple of the options threads it seems like full optioned it will be $55k. For reference the MSRP on my 2006 E46 M3 was $59k. When I option out a 2011 E92 M3 the way I want it, it MSRP's at $72k. I could deal with MSRP at $55k full loaded on a 1M. Anymore than that...not so much.

I remember when I was pricing out a new 2001 E46 M3 before buying settling on my '99 E36 M3 that the xenons and leather were not standard on the E46 and I was _ticked_. But they wanted to make the E46 M3 more price accessible and I think BMW succeeded with those omissions. The 1M will already have leather and the upgraded wheels (and xenons, I would hope!). Options are going to be minimal (and I think already well established in the other threads). JD Last edited by jdmorris; 12-21-2010 at 04:06 PM.. |

As Jeremy Clarkson wisely stated on TopGear show once... "...Automakers make nothing on the price of the car... they make their money on the OPTIONS!!!..."

Price of mid 50s for this car is insane!
you can get a base M3 for that amount or a 2011 Cobra. Oh well its the price of admission to the BMW club!

I don't have sticker shock yet but if I get one, it won't have any options really.
Only option I want is sat.

Im paying invoice price and I have quite a few dealers that have agreed, just have to decide who to place the order with.
I know a few dealers that will sell $500 over invoice for US delivery vehicles and over 3 dozen that will sell Euro Delivery cars at $500 over invoice. Im specifically speaking about the 1M and I have confirmed it with the dealerships. |

You have confirmed a deal at dealer's invoice with multiple dealers? How are they making money on that deal?

I've heard they have back end money on vehicles they sell. They dont actually pay invoice price. Im also, doing ED so the dealerships dont have to waste time test driving or prepping the car for pick up. Furthermore I am paying cash, so I wont be taking up the time of their finance dept. Finally, I dont really care how or what they are making, I contacted them with my offer and they accepted. Done deal. I ordered my 135 in February of 08 before the cars release, I paid 36k and MSRP came in at 40k, my closest dealer geographically wanted 45k for that same car. If the 1M comes in around 45k and has an ED discount I should be paying something similar for it. |

if youre doing ED I can definitely hook you up. I already have a list of interested parties for the US delivery cars, unless one falls through I dont think I have enough deals to go around.

I just think it's silly for BMW to mention this as an affordable M car. Affordable and 50 grand will never go hand in hand, period. Not for BMW folks, not for Kia folks, and not for Ferrari folks - anyone rationale would still agree that's a considerable amount of money, regardless of an individuals personal wealth. Affordable are the $13,999 Nissan Versas advertised in the Sunday Times.
