Total bummer that BMW extends the warranty in the US to 10 years and 120k miles and they don't do the same worldwide. After all it's the same engine with the same faulty pump. |

This is an argument/debate every car owner/enthusiast has with their car versus any other car and its a situation every buyer goes through. Every car I have bought I thought what can I get for 10-20% more, in the end it had to come down to what I was going to enjoy. In the 135s case it was a tiny car that was very tossable. Plus, I already owned a big displacement NA car so having a smaller TT was adding diversity to my life. My cars have different personalities and they behave very differently, I drive what Im in the mood to drive. The M3 didnt offer me the variety. I never bashed it or said it cannot perform, it was just a simple matter of preference. AND I do like unique cars, in 2008 no one had any idea what a 1 series was, today many still dont. People have said "nice M3" to me. To be completely honest I thought I would strip the 135 down and have it track dedicated, but it was too nice to mutilate and abuse. |

To me I feel like BMW is making a preemptively strike over here. They know not many are going to buy this car and they are spinning it in their favor by claiming that they did that on purpose all along and That they could only build and sell so many. Excuses just to cover up that this car isn't really that special.

For me, the perfect garage would have my current DD (330), a 1M and and e46 M3. Im currently looking for a nice clean e46 M, then perhaps a 1M if all goes well towards the end of the year. I just dont know how feasible that would be considering the "limited" production of teh 1er. Last edited by Mu Mu; 02-10-2011 at 01:51 AM.. |

If this is true, then someone answer this, when is the 1M due to end production? What I am getting at is if there are orders in place, and the 1M production line shuts down before the outstanding customer orders are filled, then the person waiting in line will never see their car. That is equivalent to limited production.
If, on the other hand, someone has their order in, and BMW says they will produce all customers cars that have their order in by such and such a date, and promise to make it no matter how long it takes, then I will believe this statement. I am just afraid, that after cars start coming in (lets say in August 2011), and a person orders a car, the line will extend past the end of production, because of a limited quota on 1M production. Again equivalent to limited production.

Could you guys just chill?
ANY cars production is limited. By time. At the latest, when a cars successor starts being built. And exactly that is the case with the 1M. Nothing else has ever been written anywhere. And if someone decides to buy a car after the order process is closed, tough luck. To those who like it and want one: I hope you get one. Those who don't: fine with me, but could you just cut the senseless "it ain't M enough" crap? You're welcome to get into my passenger seat in a couple of months on the Nordschleife to see for yourself just how M this car will be. If you lack the knowledge to understand what the cars basic figures are going to mean when driving it, then go play with something else. Obviously car's just ain't yours. Maybe try dolls, shoes or other girly stuff instead.

Never thought about that, Andre. You just gave me one more selling point for my wife. Actually a team partner of mine always dries his fireproof underwear on the engine after the training sessions. That works with na engines. He says it gives the stuff such a manly smell.

Yeah, been there, done that. When it came time to move back to the States I had to sell my EU spec A3 "cause you can't take'em with you"

I know people won't think the 1M is a "true" ///M car for a number of reasons, but the lack of a "unique" or specific engine for it shouldn't be one of them...

Marketing genious
What a crock! Lets hype it up in enthusiast circles, post up testing photos on our website then limit allocation and create all sorts of speculation on production numbers and availability. I was tempted but I am no longer. 2008 all over again...

Yeah, a bit too much hype for my liking. I'm sure the car will be great, but this is getting ridiculous. And getting all these people to psychologically commit to the car while withholding the actual price to the last possible second is just mean. Probably good business, but mean.
I am all set to buy one of these, but I'm not going to beg for one. If BMW doesn't want my money, then so be it. |

Finally, there's no decision made yet if the 1-Series M Coupe will be produced beyond 2011. Such an annoying Caveat! meaning if its such a great cash cow for us will make more - harming the residual of the people ballsy enough to order early ones!! If they keep making it and offer it in a blue later down the line I wont be happy |

Yep, I think we are all falling for BMW's marketing game here and therefore reinforcing their behavior. Talk about a self fulfilling prophecy.... Even worse is the fact that I am aware (and probably everybody else is) of this and still keep checking this forum every 1-2 hrs to see if there are any news on allocations, option prices, ED, etc. Talk about irrational behavior.... This will probably turn into a case study for business schools. |

CAFE is weighted based on sales, though. Proportionally, the # of 1Ms sold will be so small that it will have negligible effect on the fleet MPG. I think it rather has everything to do with whether customer demand has enough staying power to justify continued production.

However, how else to explain how all other 1-series get MY2012 designation post-March builds except for the 1M? And M3 carries on with MY2011 as well! In Canada, 1M gets MY2012 designation, maybe elsewhere in the world, too. |
