2011 5er (F10) Angel Eyes -> 1M Coupe
Folks,
Anyone got any info on the practicalities of making 1M Coupe "angel eyes" or "corona rings" light the same colour and intensity as the new 5er (F10). I don't get why the 1M hasn't got more LED technology on it... Heli_Ben |

The first video we saw back in the December reveal, where Dr. S takes the helmet off at the end, showed the new headlights with that bright white LED intensity on the AEs and the eyebrows... so yes, BMW realizes that it's appealing.
I suppose there's a chance that we haven't actually seen the production headlight assembly in action yet. It's been a late-developing part, as we know. |

Normally I would say not necessarily, but if the Dirty Sanchez moustache, I mean eyebrow, on top is indeed LED, then the halogen AEs are a massive fail. Either make both incandescent, or LED, but don't mix and match especially since it is part of the same headlight assembly. Someone fell asleep at the wheel on this one at BMW (it's prolly not the designers, but rather the bean counters that wanted to extract every possible cost saving)

I'm sure at some point we will hear about more aftermarket goodies for the 1M in the coming months. I'm sure by this summer, there will be some options out there? Or you might be able to simply change out the bulb for the halo lights? |

Because it's based on a platform from 4 years ago, while the 5-series you are referring to, is newer than new (not even released yet)? Just guessing... anyway, it's at the bottom of my list of good or bad reasons to get this car. |

In short, it doesn't make any financial sense for BMW to have the 1 series with LED coronas. The 5er and the 3er coupe are more premium models, and get the full LED treatment front and rear. |

Isn't there some EU law that kicks in from this month re LEDs being a requirement on all new cars?
Aren't the LEDs part of the 1er LCI too? So would they not apply to all 1 series models including coupe, cabrio and 1M? |
