Another bad review for 328
Hi Girls,
Finally my dealer pushed me to do all recalls (all about engine, pump, and reprogramming), so I decided to bring my car for dealer taking it apart. So I got 328 loaner. I already had it in past and generally was pleasant, however this time it was awful. Fist, it is about power, I had impression if I floor it, it gains power reasonably well and push a car ahead. But not at this time, the car just started jerking; instead just smoothly push me in seat. I got guess that people just used low grade gas for it, since after refueling with proper gas it started behave better. Another problem is stability, if for 135 I need just slightly put some force to steering wheel to manage my car in line, I have to literally slightly turn steering wheel of 328. Thin steering wheel also gave me a problem in confident grip, I used to have “M” style thick wheel. I have to slow 328 in turn because the car gave me fear that it can get out of control. I didn’t find also new iDrive more convenient, instead of managing 1 button and knob I have to manipulate with a bunch of buttons and no any usability improvements. Sports seats of 135 are more supportive and comfortable. On positive note I can tell that 328 has much better noise isolation. But I drive convertible. So I am certainly glad that I selected 1 against 3.

you have to keep in mind that the 3 you had more then likely didnt have the sport pack. It wasnt manual, its a bigger car, and its a loaner people beat the crap out of it.
When i had a 328 loaner i wouldnt say that it didnt have any power. Its barely slower then the 128 which is what i have. It just felt a lot bigger and thus also feels slower. you said yours was jerking, so clearly something was up with it. mine ran fine, but the worst part of the car to me was the styling. It looks like the most boring car ever. at least the 1 is stylish, love it or hate it. |

Up here in Ohio we always get 328 X-drive lonars. That 328 auto tranny sucks with the all wheel drive system, even when you re-set it.
But it sure beats sitting in the waiting room all day burning a sick day! |

Probably a loaner, without the Sport PKG, auto transmission and improper break in, and weak adaptation (driven like a granny).

As the 328i will run just fine on 87 AKI, I doubt the gas had anything to do with it - more likely the transmission finally adapting to your driving style.

The 328i manual with the sport package stands out compared with the standard auto version. It's well balanced, very machine like. I came close to ordering the coupe but the 135i engine and power won out.

Prior to this past monday, I've been driving around in a V4 chevy malibu for three weeks while my car was being fixed up. Before that I had a volkswagen beetle as a loaner for about 2 weeks.
Got my car back for a day and then brought it in for what used to be the inspection 1 service and I got a 328xi coupe auto no sport package. it was a dream. not the same as my car.. but it was a dream. we're spoiled. many people would LOVE to have a brand new chevy malibu, not to mention a 328xi haha

You are not comparing apple to apple .. 328 is very different from the 1. I like my 328 nd I bet you any money that going from my LG is much more different than going from your 135 to a 328. Nonetheless I think its a decent car . Or maybe you just have high standards in comparison to me

everyone complains that a _28i with auto is slow and has uneven, bad acceleration.. but compared to that car (with a crappier tranny and a 4 cyl engine), the smooth, awesome inline 6 of _28i cars is great.

There is nothing wrong with a 328. It's BMW's most popular model in the US.

Not everyone wants/needs a small, high-powered car. 328i sells far better than the 135 or 335 in the US. BMW makes a variety of cars that are equipped for a wide variety of buyers. I'd say if you didn't like the free 328i loaner, you might try walking or taking public transportation.

Try a 118i non-sport loaner with auto and plastic trim pieces instead of wood or aluminium. You guys in the US have got it good!

We got a 135i coupe with DCT for a loaner last week when the 328xi got a new cylinder head. I would lose my drivers license if I drove that everyday.

Being lucky enough to own 2 Bimmers, I only use the dealer loaner to get home & back. After the dealer's Enterprise manager initially tried to set me up in an Escalade loaner years ago, I told them I wanted a small car, not a truck- so I generally get a Civic or Altima. It's much better than walking the 8 miles back to my house! I fail to understand the mentality which says that the loaner must be superior to the car you bought - unless one is considering a new purchase and wishes an extended test drive. Tom |

My car's at the dealer right now - no loaner.
I would've been happy with anything with four wheels, but they just don't do loaners over here. So instead I'm being shuttled around by the wife. I just don't get the mentality of being picky about what amounts to a free rental car. |

328i is a great car just needs to be paired with a 6spd to fully access all that power at higher Rpms. Of course the Sports pkg is a must as well but like many have pointed out it is BMW's most popular car so it's going to cater to the mass of customers instead of enthusiasts.

Exactly, try driving a Chevy Cobalt and then go to a 328i. It will feel like an M3!!

I really don't get all the 328i hate that I see on this forum... I don't think I'd buy one, true, as it doesn't fit my personal needs in my other car (fuel efficiency, space for passengers/cargo,) but it does seem to do what it's supposed to do competently enough.
Obviously none of y'all had a 1988 Chevy Celebrity as your first car. Drive one of those for nine years, then I DARE you to b*tch and moan about a 3-series. |
