How bad would THAT be! Well... a pretty bitter pill to swallow for those lucky first year 1M buyers. Only lucky enough to buy the first model year and then BMW comes out with an even more driver focused (CSL-like)version. ? But... I really do not think that will happen. Dackel |

451hp doesn't make sense on a 1-series regardless of how we look at it. It may be a mistake OR it may be the next M3 engine which I always thought the N54 will be
Any way...451hp from BMW on an N54...happy tuning, N54 owners !

Typical german typo- just like in the history of M3 specs- they use kw instead of HP. The US car will have 332 HP- bc of our crap fuel and CA emissions, this is normal.

That will be bad ass. Will require work to properly harness all the power though.

Not trying to burst anyone's bubble but does anyone know for certain that the new M3 will in fact have the N54 engine setup?

There is basically zero chance the next M3 has N54 in it. Will it resemble N54 and N55 because it's a BMW turbo I6? Definitely.
The M3, like the M5 and M6, will get a true "S" designated engine because they are the halo cars for BMW. |

It says there will be a 135is version with 225kw which is the standard N54 output anyway I wonder what would make it an 'is'? Maybe suspension upgrades? Why choose the N54 for the 'is'?
As far as the 332KW version - well that's going to be pushing it - imagine the supporting mods it will need - did BMW have time to do develop all these things for the one car? Last edited by Alext; 11-24-2010 at 01:20 AM.. |

The other US cars on that list are also in kW, so I doubt that they would just change formats like that, and secondly the other US cars are in kW. |

Time to just get an LSD and m3 suspension bits for my car. No point in wasting money on a 1M that won't offer anything except a wider body and maybe not having a 100lb sunroof.

However that was sometime ago before we knew of the cost cutting and time constraints so it's probably unlikely now. However a small part of me fears they are watering down the first product to make room for a GTS/CSL version. I certainly hope not. |

The F3X M3 will have an S-designated engine, naturally. The only info we know is what Scott26 (and maybe southlight?) has alluded to in the past: 3.5L 6-cylinder engine with 3 turbos producing around 450HP. Obviously not an iota of this will be confirmed for many months (or even years) given a 2014 debut.
