I've been on paternity leave for the past two months; going back to work in 13 days. Figured I should knock things out on the car now as I won't have spare time like this again, so I ordered a final round of goodies.
OZ Leggera HLT 17x7.5 +45 and Michelin PSS in 225/45/17 square (~40lbs each!) M3 front control arm kit Whiteline rear subframe inserts (given the stock bushings are so new, opted to skip the full M3 upgrade for a year or two) Burger CDV Me being me, I agonized over wheel and tire width, vascillating between 225 and 235. Here's what decided it for me: The tread widths are the damn same, and the 225 has the optimal diameter. Even the section widths would've been very similar with the same measuring rim width -- the 225 would've gone up to around 9.3" section width given a 0.5" wider rim (per http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...jsp?techid=200). Given that, I went for the 17x7.5" +45 wheel instead of the 17x8. I guess it might keep me from going 245 some day, but I don't think I care. And I wanted the BBS RF but the Leggera HLT seems like an excellent alternative for me at ~40% of the cost, near identical looks, let me have 17s, and uses HLT tech which puts it squarely between cast and forged in quality. In other news, I put about 50 miles on the car over the weekend. Loving the PE so far, and I can't wait to get this other stuff installed and then just enjoy it all. Wheels are on! I'm really happy with the fit and appearance. I've only driven it a couple miles, but roll-on acceleration feels improved, and the chirp from 1st to 2nd is gone, so there's clearly more straight-line traction despite dropping from 245 to 225. Hoping to get to some twisty roads later today for some gentle break-in driving.
The OEM center caps are about 2mm too large for these wheels, so I've ordered OEM roundel decals to overlay on the OZ center caps. |

Well the caps are all plastic, so it'd have to be on the wheel side (or maybe a custom made cap). Probably not worth the effort, but thanks for the offer!

Bam! These 58mm convex decals were perfect. Around $40 shipped on eBay.

The retaining clip on the center caps has to be installed from behind, so I'll add them this weekend when I do the control arm swap and rear subframe bushing inserts. Probably take some photos next week after I get an alignment.
I'm excited to see the finished product! |

Also, the 313M wheels in 18x7.5 with 215/40/18 and 18x8.5 and 245/35/18 weighed in at 46.6 and 50.0 pounds respectively. Subtracting out tire weights, that's 46.6 - 24 = 22ish and 50 - 27 = 23ish pounds. Rough estimates considering tread wear and TireRack's non-exact weights.
Not super svelte, but not quite boat anchors either. Good balance for OEM wheels. Last edited by squidge; 02-24-2016 at 06:07 PM.. |

Fronts, a little. IIRC fe1rx has a post stating the number of turns on the tie rods to get you back in the ballpark.

Yeah, I read that over. Ten turns on each side to get it close, IIRC. I can't imagine that five miles of driving with it a few degrees out of whack is going to mess the tires up in a lasting way though, right? Not worried about it being tricky to drive.

I just found that too. Thanks. After reading a bit more, I think I'll measure the toe before the swap using the string method and then try to replicate that measurement afterwards. Sounds like 3.5 full turns will be a good ballpark though, if plan A doesn't work out.

Finally got a follow up photo of the roundel emblems on the Leggeras. The weather's been crap in NorCal lately and I've been waiting for sunshine before cleaning the car. Really happy with the end result here.
