Have fun the new toy.

I also went with AW/black/6MT. I never considered anything else.
To me having the car paid for is what matters, not who paid for it.
Congratulations and welcome to 1ADDICTS. Enjoy...

As a parent would you rather have your kid driving a cheap "tin can" or a proper car know for its safety and well built?
I'm not a parent yet but I believe I would feel better if I knew my son/daughter was driving a car that could protect him/her in case of an accident.
Of course I'm planning on educating them on proper behaviour. It's not because you have a fast car that you should drive recklessly. If the parents have the means to help their son to a good car, then they should do it.

Anyway, welcome to the forum and share some photos of your new ride!

Why did you mention it was a gift in the first place? Why not simply say you picked up a new car and keep the particulars private?

Is this your first car? Just wondering.

It's all relative

Congrats on your new ride. I am not going to flame you because when I was 18 my parents took me to the dealership and bought me a brand new 1986 Mustang GT as a graduation present. I had no idea at the time what it was, but all I can say is that by 1987 it had been in 3 wrecks and by 1988 it was totalled.

If you really want to be pissed off, go look at m3post or e90post and see how many parents have bought 16-18 year old kids 335s and M3s, which are a hell of a lot more expensive that a 1 - it's all relative, my friends.

I don't really fault these parents for buying the kid a nice new car - but what kind of a doofus buys their kid a brand new TT BMW with the power to weight ratio of a gokart? A nice Honda Civic Si would have been a better choice, especially considering the $$$ it is going to insure that sucker and fill it up with gas.

Have a good time,

J

I agree. Sooo many haters. Ouch. My parents got me an S2000 at 18 because I was a good kid. I had 3yrs of driving experience in 2 SUV's and a lemon of a Jetta. They offered to buy me a 135i and send me to Germany to pick it up after graduation. I told them no thanks! The s2k was a big enough gift. To the OP, enjoy the car man!

What makes you think that a BMW is safer than any other car? The price? If you want safe get a Volvo or Subaru.

Sure, A 300 hp rwd coupe sports car that does 0-60 in 4.7 seconds is a perfectly safe car for a young man. :iono:
