what's this internal only system of which you speak?

[QUOTE=Oakland1;23960558]Thank you. Yea they look to be made by a factory hydraulic press I just wasn't sure. I thought at first maybe they were to assist with bends but it doesn't appear that way based on where they are.

So, I guess it would appear some engineer determined they were needed, even though they look random.[/QUOTE}

Yes, verifying they are normal - mine has them too.

Yeah, I noticed these as well on the factory exhaust. So did my exhaust shop, but first we wondered about the dents on the PE as we unpacked it. Since the dents were on both the factory exhaust and the PE we deemed it normal. Agree they look like random dents, though.

Great exhaust, btw. Have had mine since 2011 (along with PPK) and it seems to get better with every mile!

Over the 35 some odd years I've been wrenching on thing (cars, bikes, anything that held still long enough really....) I've seen almost every auto manufacturer have these dents in the OE exhaust parts. Every time I've seen a supposedly official answer/reason for it the wording has basically always come down to a clearance issue- wanting more basically.

They test to some pretty odd standards or situations that most owners would never conceive of putting their car through. At some point the 135 exhaust actually managed to touch the lower control arm or whatever. Now, there's a dent....

Clearance issues, huh? That makes sense. Wonder if the aftermarket stuff takes that in to consideration as well? You'd think they would. How's your Borla, as far as clearance goes?

My Borla is muffler with custom 3" piping after the last major bend, so the OE dents in the 2.75" section are still there. OE is dual 2.5 into 2.75, mine becomes 3" after the suspension.

Don't think I've ever seen any aftermarket exhaust with purposely dented areas... I think that, as a general rule, aftermarket exhaust is as much about the art as it is function, and dents have no place in art when you're overpaying by that much...

The BMW PE exhaust- that counts as OE, not aftermarket. You can tell cause it's not polished...

Reference example- I present you the ever so popular, and very shiny, Berk Street-

The BMW PE is OEM, not OE. Most of my upgrades are. It's what I want on my car.

And who cares how shiny it is, it's under the car where you can't see it anyway. The PE is shiny where it counts - the tips.

More important than shiny stuff is I love the way it sounds and that makes it worth every penny to me.

Wasn't looking for a bargain, wanted great fit and quality, and great sound and that's what I got.

PS - hope you get yours sounding the way you want. Don't forget to post a vid.

You are correct- my mistake, I meant OEM, not OE

I so very totally agree- My theory isn't how shiny, that's the overpriced art coming into play, but rather form over function is more important for exhaust. If you can get an even semi-reasonable price point, considering the BMW tax, then all the better. Frankly, at ~$750ish the PE is a stunning value considering OEM... As you said, it's under the car, so proper fitment and performance first, and sound quality a very VERY important second, appearance somewhere after.

PS - hope you get yours sounding the way you want. Don't forget to post a vid.
I do have mine sounding right *for me*. I suspect it's much quieter than the average PE purchaser would appreciate, but I'm old and daily commute mine. That said, the Borla ProXS is straight through design 3", and deeper in tone than the PE according to any video I've seen (wearing headphones for best sound). All the burbles on decel etc. come through just like any aftermarket, be it PE or Berk or whatever. My goal was Berk but a bit quieter and no drone- met that goal in spades! I've got to do my diff and oil tomorrow, but hope to get the gopro mounted after that. No external mike, but will try to make do...

Yeahhhhh... Been listening to that video since I got my 135. Where I am now with the Borla and that whole semi-silly Project Drone Free Growl that video makes me want seriously consider the resonator delete. Love hearing the turbo spool and wind down.... I'm running catless mids, so just res and primary cats left (dare I say VRSF catless downpipes for x-mas...)

1and1, I think you mean function over form is more important for exhaust.

Also, since you mentioned age, I'm probably older than you, but consider myself young at heart. My wife says I'm just immature. lol

It's what I didn't do to my 1er today.
I woke up this morning and saw my town had salted the roads! Ughh!!!! Annoying!

Will be making a five mile run over to my parent's house to retrieve my GTI that my father has been using. His X3 is out of commission until the fuel pump gets mailed in.

I am happy to see many jumping on the PE, it's a great option.

Pair it with a Catless VRSF Downpipe and it's glorious.

My car sounds almost as solid and grunt than the M2 did with High Flow catted downpipe and full Dinan Exhaust which also deleted Resonator.

That's how good the PE exhaust sounds paired with Catless downpipe.

Well, I fucked up.

Went to fix some vinyl stuff and made it worse. My only recourse was to cut this panel out of the vinyl since I don't have enough to rewrap the whole bumper

Order some more wrap or leave it. It doesn't look bad. Goes with the black grilles and top.

You're changing it soon anyway so don't sweat it.

You can do a tune or install the module to avoid the CEL but it's a hit or miss. Heard a couple people had it work and on my girls 135i it still had the CEL come on.
