I'd scuff it, mask it off and paint it with enamel model paint. Where did that motorsport emblem come from????

I changed the oil today with Pennzoil euro L 5w-30. I am not a sucker for marketing but that Pennzoil commercial with the M6 having fun in the snow really sold me :seesaw:

Had to order a new locking mechanism for the ski pass-through. Went to stick a trim board through there the other day, and the latch fell apart in my hand.

Shouldn't you be using 0W-40?

I mean I could, I think either is fine. But isn't the 5W-30 better for summer since it's more viscous? I drive mine basically april-november. 0W-40 is thinner I believe which is great for winter. Do you use 0W-40? I could try that next time

Being old, I always assume specifying any 0-weight oil is done more for EPA mileage testing than longevity of the engine. Anyone want to make a case for that being wrong-headed?

I think the "use a thicker oil in the summer" is an old school practice.

I've only ever used BMW grade , whatever it is, 6 years now, no problems, my engines like new, but I change twice yearly, often just a filter change mid year and if the idrive tells me thats on top, so in a year, oil is looked checked and changed minium twice a year

5W-40 for me. Running MHD and driving like I stole it!
Applied some 303 Fabric Guard to the convertible top yesterday. Hopefully it will stop soaking up water like a Bounty paper towel. |

0-40 is thicker at higher temperatures and thinner at low temperatures than a 5-30.

I'm using 5W-30 on the oil changes between the recommended factory intervals. Only reason I'm using 5W-30 is because a good friend sourced OEM BMW oil for me for free. Have about 8 to 12 more bottles of the stuff. Can't say no to free. Not sure what the dealers use when I have them do the factory included maintenance. I guess I have to look at the work order. I have one more factory service left in my extended maintenance package.
But once I use up the free bottles I have, I'll be going to 0W-40. |

Had my car ceramic coated with Opticoat just over a week ago. Hadn't had much of chance to scrutinize the results. Literally drove it back to my house, parked it in the garage, and threw the car cover over it. I did drive it on Monday and did a general look over.
During some reading I found this product: https://www.carpro-us.com/compounds/...nt-500ml-17oz/ I'll be ordering a bottle to have on hand. Through my readings, this product is sort of a game changer for those who have ceramic coated their cars. It allows "repairs" of areas where some polishing/buffing has been done to remove any scratches or swirls on ceramic coated cars. From reading the various posts, it not only allows "patching" of worked on areas, but it also can fill in minor swirls/scratches on the existing ceramic coating. From reading, you can even use this product by itself on bare paint. So far the professional detailers that have used this product have had nothing but good things to say. |
