Stelvio v2.0 tour...
Hey Guys,
I have been thinking about our next Stelvio trip for this summer. Stelvio v2.0. I know everyone can not wait for summer to hurry up and get here. I have been thinking about when we should plan our Stelvio trip in 2013. What do you guys all think>? Rick posted that the ///M guys will be doing their Slovenia trip and visit to Akrapovič on June 27th thru June 30th, 2013. Summer Marathon - classic car rally... is being held on June 13th thru June 16th, 2013 http://www.summermarathon.it/en/index.php This Summer Marathon was the old timer (classic) car rally that was going on the weekend we toured Stelvio last year. Then the following weekend: June 23rd, 2013 is the Dreiländergiro That means Nauders (where our Hotel was located) will be inudated with bicycle racers. (and the drive up the Stelvio Pass). http://www.dreilaendergiro.at/en/home.html I was thinking we could do our Stelvio v2.0 tour on the same weekend as the Classic Car Rally (June 15th & 16th). Maybe a day or two before or after for more Alpine road driving in the area. Swiss or Italian roads. What does everyone else think?

Thanks. And you know... we all had SUCH a great time driving all these mountain pass roads. I can't wait to do it all over again this summer.
You might also enjoy looking at this thread on the Gross Glockner Pass. Some of us euro 1Addicts will drive it after the Welt 4.0 meeting at BMW Welt/Museum this May. Gross Glockner Pass – Hoch Strasse http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=406468

This is such an amazing post! If not the best I ever saw one of the best ones!
So many questions coming to my mind! Let me pop up a few: - Will be a 2016 edition? - If yes will this be optional for outsiders to join? - Do you guys ride this tours mostly in Summer? If yes namely which period. - What can you advice in case we're alone riding to Passo dell Stelvio? - Is there enough network and support in case trouble happens? Honestly saying I would love to participate with you guys in such ride ... Best regards, Joao |

I'm curious...
A.) Are all the people who went on this trip from America who shipped their personal cars abroad? B.) Or are all the people currently living in Europe? C.) A & B Looks like it was a great adventure!

Kind of all of the above. Most of us are Americans affiliated with the US Armed Services in Germany. Active duty Air Force and Army and/or civilian works supporting the mission here. We get German "cover lic plates" so you can't tell we are not German until we speak! lol But you can tell by the orange reflectors on our headlights. Most of us bought our 1er's(US specs) new thru the military car sales program. When our tour is done, we will ship the cars back home to the USA. Some bought their 1er in the USA and the military shipped the car here for the duration of their PCS move. But some of us(like myself) consider Germany my home, and I have no plans to leave. Some of our "guys"(1Addicts) are German, Belgium, Dutch, Austrian, Norwegian, Swedish and Italian. (Hope I didn't leave anyone out!) Some of us are already think of the coming summer adventures for us Euro 1Addicts. It's always nice to meet new people and see old friends on every summer Alpine Tour. Dackel

Passo Stelvio this past September...
This past September, I visited Stelvio again. I never tire of driving up Passo Stelvio. This time of year... the weather was very touchy... the week before then had eight inches of snow. Luckily... we dodged that bullet. But the first week in October... Stelvio got hit by a major snow fall. The Italian Army(Air Force?) had to chopper the tourists out from the summit with ONE Huey!! 27 trips back and fourth! What a mess. I wonder how they got back to fetch their cars.
Anyways... here are my pics of Stelvio from this September 2018. I tried to stay the night at Hotel Perego - Francesca's Hotel... But they were fully booked up. Instead we stayed the night down at the base of Stelvio... at a very nice hotel called the Hotel Traube, Paese, 1, 39029 Stelvio BZ, Italy Enjoy my pics! Dackel Passo Stelvio... going up, driving direction South(from Austria)... Francesca's place... Hotel Perego... Richard's Bratwurst... this guy has been up here serving wurst for a very long time! For 52 years!! Best wurst around!! Be sure to get the sour kraut with your brats! Albergo Ristorante Tibet - Passo dello Stelvio, 39029 Trafoi BZ, Italy A cool place to walk up to and take some snaps... but the guy who owns this place is a royal ass. I don't recommend visiting here. Kirchturm von Altgraun - SS40, 39027 Curon Venosta BZ, Italy On the Reichen Pass road that goes thru Nauders and onwards into Austria. This is a cool place to stop for a few minutes. Hotel Traube, Paese, 1, 39029 Stelvio BZ, Italy The oldest German beer brewery... since 1040!! Hotel Traube, had wonderful food!! This was their dessert. I would visit here again. I had been here many years before... it's in a great location off the beaten path of the main road up to Stelvio(Bormio)summit. The owner was awesome. Such a great little family run hotel. Giro Italia... Festung Nauders or Fortrss Nauders... a WWI fortress carved into the mountain side. It's directly on the Reichen Pass road. But it's just before a covered bridge... so have your eyes peeled! https://www.google.de/maps/place/Fes...0.492925?hl=en xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Rikx1M our old friend seems to have passed away in 2015. Ludwig Thomas died just before his 85th birthday. He was so nice to all of us. smellthebeans Swadeness Mr Kleen Nomana Elsabor67 JK135i Grey Dove 135junky Neuschwanstein Castle - on my drive back North back home... Ahh Bayern! You know you are in a tourist area when the signs are in Chinese & English!
