Soooo... yesterday I found myself searching for '11 528i's with N52. I can help but think that coupled with the 8 sp ZF they could be good fun. There actually was one in state with like 36k miles and I'm thinking dang... I'll have to find an old sales brochure and see what all was available on these and how they could be configured. Cheers

Installed Bilstein B6 suspension and the BMW ipod interface kit. I gave up looking for a replacement. Just overhaul this thing before parts get super hard to get.

Oh yeah, I did a thing.

Installed a GruppeM Carbon Fibre RAM air intake. 😎

A thing of beauty.

Finally after all the maintenance and freak oil line bursting on me (a cool $650 out of nowhere) I splurged and got a short shifter from ECS. Advertised 35% reduced throw and boy does it feel like it. Makes shifting with the air conditioning basically perfect (as revs dip down faster with a/c on).

The install wasn’t that bad. I was under the car for 10 minutes and up top for about an hour. And for $175 I’ll take it. We’ll see how it holds up over time.

Clutch stop is next. And I really want an M5 F10 illuminated shift knob but not for >$300 😬

And while I’m still at it, here’s a line up of German chariots. My X3 35i and e82. My brother’s 135 up front. You’d think I’m a bmw dealership from 2012.

Btw: the 35i is no joke. I think it’s the early iteration or maybe idea of an X3M from that time.

I'm not sure what I did today, but suddenly I've got a weird loud exhaust. But intermittent, not constant. I poked my head underneath briefly and didn't see any gaping holes so... I'm flying out on a business trip early tmr so won't be able to try and figure it out until later.

Question: is the exhaust flap supposed to look like this?: Base 128i and that pic is with the engine off.

the flap works off vacuum. at lower RPM's, the flap closes and then when RPM's get over a certain amount, the flap opens. some people unplug the vacuum line and plug it with a golf tee to keep the flap open.

so I think if the car is off in your picture, the flap should be open since there's no vacuum? try taking a pic with the car on?

Last Friday I noticed the engagement point on the clutch was quickly dropping. Got to the point I had to shut it off to get it in first. and the clutch engaged immediately off the floor. Reve matching for shifts helped.

Got it home and ordered both cylinders to replace (thanks FCPeuro!). Figured both are original so lets do them all.

May just do all the hydraulics as I have a 135 i master and SS brake lines in the to do pile as well.

Yep, I've done the same on both my E91 and E82.

Twist the wires together and then cover them to protect from water/salt/dirt. Supergnat even made them look professional.

Lol, trust me. Every time I do something that looks "professional", it costs me way more than it would have to just pay a professional.

I love the new parts look. Looks like a proper delete

Better than what I did, just cut them off after the hub of the 100k mile sensor and twisted them together like an A-hole.

I will be following suit

That's correct - the flap is open when the car is off. You hear it close shortly after starting. Interested to hear more about it when you get back!

Yo, you got a water/oil heat exchanger on the front of your oil filter housing? What market is your car? Interesting, I don't think any 128s got that here in America.

I have one on my car. Maybe it was part of the hot climate option?

Edit: no I don't

Probably the PO added it. It wasn't on the car when the Bimmer Life "The Unicorn 128i" article came out and the PO said he replaced the housing gasket at 43k miles. I think only the 5-series got it in the states.

I also think the "hot climate" option is just the standard AC.

Interestingly I'm in the process of converting from the standard oil cooler setup to thee radiators up front and a water/oil heat exchanger on my N54.

Gonna lean on water cooling and upgrade the fan too.

Gave the cars a quick wash this morning and two coats of butter wax on the headlights before the noon summertime sun came blazing.

And later, drove out on errands and stopped by the local tire shop to get quotes on new tires.

Going with Michelin PS5's on the E82. Already running them on the F10 and MINI.

Not as great as the PS4S'sI had previously on the 5 but with a more forgiving compound (I believe) I'd see less cracking. Should get them fit in a couple weeks and looking forward to some fresh rubber on the 135.
