Seriously tho, great 10 year pic, and a great story to go with it
Kinda jealous a bit!
It's so true.

I poke fun, but honestly it's an objectively great car. First pic was 69k miles and the second is just under 150k. Entire life the northeast and nearly corrosion-free, never battled rusted hardware.

It's been through hell and back, lived a bunch of years street parked, carried bikes on down dirt paths in Maine, lumber and dump runs (before I had a truck), two kayaks, and of course being driven in a matter that allows the M suspension upgrades to be enjoyed.

Besides the AC and typical rotation of oil leaks, it's been rock solid reliable. Only near-stranded experience was a starter that had been giving warning signs for a year (thankfully, was able to push start). Original water pump, clutch, VANOS stuff, etc.

Wouldn't own it for 10 years if it was crap.

Such a familiar story. Sounds almost exactly like my first 10ish years of ownership.

I will never sell the 1er. I've already fixed it (problems I created) well over it's objective value probably twice over. Literally drove the wheels off (axles wore out at 600hp) put new ones in and kept going.

These cars are special.

Got the Michelin PS5's mounted today. The shop is a local father/son small business so also feels good to help out the community than using a larger retail branch.

The ride is awesome - supple but firm as expected with new tires. The steering feel is much more precise than the old Yokohama Advans. I like the fact that the F10, MINI and now E82 have the same tires as there is a familiarity as I drive between the three.

In the end, I went with stock M-Sport sizes as later I'll be adding either 10, 12 or 15mm spacers so going wider with the rubber (ie 225/255's) might limit my spacer options. I'm running 2.6/3.0 bar pressure now and it seems to be good but I'll experiment over time.

At any rate, the old tires were done - cracking on the sides and shoulders so glad to get this off the list of things to do.

Next up in the short term is the MOT, spacers and if time allows I may go down that audio upgrade rabbit hole I dread but also look forward to.

Made an appt for Thursday to finally have my three recall items done on my base 128i:

23V707: VANOS Bolts

22V119: PCV Valve Heater

19V579: Blower Motor Wiring

Anything I need to know/discuss about these ahead of time? For the VANOS bolts, my understanding is that the dealer will remove/re-install my existing cam cover, and I'm thinking that should be OK since the (then-leaky) cam cover was replaced about 2 years / 15k miles ago. Or is it worth paying out of pocket for another new one already? They DO install a new gasket, I hope, yes..?? Thx

The valve covers do warp on the back edge...hopefully they check for that. It is my opinion that if it is warped, or the original cover, I would pay for a new valve cover and have it replaced labor free. But if your valve cover is only 2 years old, as you state, it's probably okay to just replace the gaskets and call it a day.

Nice! We don't receive the PS5 in e82 compatible sizes in north america.
Assuming they're pretty similar to PS4S?
Have to say, best sidewall ever... not so relevant, but I do like the small inconsequential details.

Like this detail... may I suggest a set? I have em lol.

Replaced the clutch slave cylinder and all is good again. Didn't do the master but now have a spare on hand. Easy job. Didn't even bleed it.

Prefilled it on the bench. left it compressed, installed, hooked up the line with a quick swap. Cracked the bled screw and let it dribble. Bolted it up and pressed the pedal 15 times or so and engagement is great!

Also the first time I used my quickjacks to work under the car for more than an oil change.....very nice.

Thanks. The PS4S's are still better. Sharper turn in and feel a tad more planted. They are the best tires I've ever had.

Since I'm now parking outside instead of indoor parking, my guess is the PS4S's multi-compound design (which makes them outstanding) were impacted after a couple winters then developed some splits.

So decided to 'downgrade' to the PS5's as I don't need the performance and the uni-compound design would probably last longer in my conditions. And the sidewall is killer - best looking tire by far!

Here is a pic of the split was I was starting to see on the PS4S's.

On the ///M valve stems - I do have those from the original owner of the E82. Not sure I liked them so went more generic - but I could whip them out again and see.

Hard to believe you guys can't get the PS5's for these sizes? Or do you mean the BMW OEM star stamped tires? I don't have those, just the regular PS5s.

PS4's are great. I went through many hoops to source a set for my E36 M3.

Reeived my MHD Flasher wifi adapter today. Downloaded the app. Will check if I can connect and then, time to plurge down the dough for the full flash license and get this puppy up to Stage 2+ and play around with the multimaps.

For whatever reason, there are only 20 sizes available.
215/40R18 is, but 245/35 is not.
225/40 and 255/35 are both not available.

I think they tend to be in sizes aligned with OE PS5 equipped cars? There seems to be no pattern behind it.

The PS4S still seems to be their premier street HP tire.

***Edit, it donned on me after seeing your 275/35 which is made in France.
PS4S sold here are made in the US. Can almost guarantee this has to do with taxation, import duties, and profit margin.

Make sure they don't corrode and seize to the valve stem.

Can't believe BMW sells these AliExpress jokes of valve covers. I would never fit something like that to my car.

You noticed that.. Yeah - funny thing is both rears were made in France and had the split whereas the fronts never had an issue and were made in the United States.

The two rears were not from the original set I bought as I had punctures on both rears (at different times) so bought them online.

I might have just got a bad batch for the rears not sure so not knocking the PS4S’s too hard. Still the goat.

You would think the French made tires would be the best from Michelin!

At any rate - was glad to see made in the U.S.A on something! That was pretty much gone after the 80’s. Hopefullly returning.

My E82 PS5 fronts are made in Thailand and rears Spain. Hmmm.

OUCH!

Took my two little cousins to the local HS to teach them to drive stick shift. Third time for the younger and second time for the older.

I let the younger one drive home on the actual road in the 128i and they both did very well. Best part was the younger one said “i want to get a bmw like yours, i’m converted”

We got another one boys!

How old are they? Did you demonstrate a Doughnut or Drift for them while on site at HS!?
I taught my oldest in the e30, but the youngest needs to learn now . . . and e30 is sold

They are 17ish. Hopefully next time I can do an open-diff drift so they can experience the feel!

Sounds like it’s time to buy another e30
