Nice car! Seems like all the Slick top's are coming out the last few days.
I got stuck with a sun-roof, but did get the Manual Sport Seats and 6 speed. Waited months to even find that.

I think we need to take inspiration from BillDaCat8 and cut out our roofs, only to replace them with the carbon fiber tops. That should save a good 70 lbs.

Bimmerworld sells a CF delete plate that fits perfectly and a 1M/slicktop headliner isn't badly expensive, especially if someone is considering a ~$1500-2500 full CF roof which requires extensive cutting/drilling and bonding work to install, nevermind rear glass etc.
Stick to the CF plug, cheap, DIY in hours, and keeps your steel roof.

But I look at it as it's a 128i that I am not tracking, so the weight savings isn't going to be a big impact for me using it as a daily. Car actually feels pretty peppy for what it is, and I got another car that weighs less than 3200 lbs in full trim that I can pull the top off which saves around 35 lbs or so. That's why I never went any further with that one.....460/460 to the wheels in a car that weighs a little over 3000lbs is plenty!

First two purchases:
1) Schroth QuickFits for both fronts. 2) 17x8.5 ET40 six spoke cast wheels that were supposed to weigh 19#, but actually weigh closer to 17.5#. Still debating whether these are gonna get shod with 255/40s or 245/40s....probably gonna do 245s despite future changes likely able to accommodate the 255s 255/40s = 25.2" diameter/~24lbs/~10" tread width on the 8.5" wheel 245/40s = 24.7" diameter/~22lbs/~9.9" tread width on 8.5" wheel Sure could've waited for the QuickFits, but too good a value to pass up even in the early modification phase.

Don't put a 255 on an 8.5" wheel imo. 235 is perfect, 245 works, but is a little fat and soft. Stock is 225.

STX Autocross. It's certainly gonna be a square setup, I"m just not convinced the 255 is really gaining me anything on the 8.5 inch wheel width - however, I have no first hand experience of my own to gauge from.....my underlying premise has always been that more tire contact patch is better, hence the 255 consideration to begin with.
Open for input, chime in with firsthand experience if you've got it...

You're not pinching off the tire running a 255 on that 8.5" wheel. I'm right at the limit with the 8" wheel, can't effectively run anything wider. Running a square setup is your best bet. If you look on line, you'll find plenty of setup advice for the 1. I'd check out this subforum as a start for setting up the car; https://www.1addicts.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=253. STX will allow you a ton of mods, and one I'd do is camber plates. The 1 from the factory is a camber challenged car. Sway bars, dampers and springs are a must if you want to be a player along with light weight wheels and good tires like the RE71 or Rival S. I think you're allowed to run a tune, but you can't change to the 3 stage intake. If you do, that puts you in street mod class. Just do your research and plan carefully and follow what the winning cars are doing. Along with decent mods, seat time is the best thing to improve driving the car. |

Thanks.
If I'd been totally smart I probably would have gone to one of the Twins. Alas, I owned/drove a '72 2002 a few decades ago and couldn't resist the memories associated with it, so I ended up here instead. I've done some research.....camber plates on new suspension alone are insufficient, it'll require offset bushings to get the front end where it needs to be. It's gonna need an actual lsd too. Pretty sure I'll be running the Yokohama A052s for a tire, but we'll see. STX is new to me, there'll certainly be some learning. Thankfully there are at least three that have gone this route in years past, so the recipe is reasonably well established. The car will get there at some point, it's just a matter of time and money. My driving skills will have to progress sufficiently to do it justice. Inspiration: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1140422 I believe Kgolf31's sale ad (aka recipe) from a couple years ago: https://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1113504

Welcome to another Albertan. Seems to be very few of us on here. Track Junkies has track days at Castrol if you're interested. I haven't been but hope to make it this summer. My car is hibernating for the winter and will get another upgrade in the spring.

Might see some track days down the line, but for now solely focused on auto-x. I'll remember the invite - thanks.
More bits ordered: 1M strut brace conversion pieces (eBay for some, retailer for some). M3 rsfb (classifieds for fronts, retailer for rears). Pretty much convinced it'll be TCKline suspension - Konis have been my damper preference for at least a decade now. This'll be my first set up with camber plates however....so keeping in mind the effort to gain significant front camber - recommendations/preferences amongst TCKline, Ground Controls and Vorshlag? Others to consider? Trying to build this right the first time out .

Plus, if you're into modding, you're going to be swapping out the stock suspension away, plus other stuff. That's why I never included sport suspension in my buying criteria.
