my dealer changed me actually to the thinner, was 5-30, said that was now recommeded.

Going to the 0-40 hasnt changed anything, but will probably go back to 5-30 as its thicker and better for the valve lifters

I've only ever used BMW grade , whatever it is, 6 years now, no problems, my engines like new, but I change twice yearly, often just a filter change mid year and if the idrive tells me thats on top, so in a year, oil is looked checked and changed minium twice a year

bobsoi forum had a great quote, "it doesn't really matter what make of oil you use as long as you change it regularly"

5W-40 for me. Running MHD and driving like I stole it!

Applied some 303 Fabric Guard to the convertible top yesterday. Hopefully it will stop soaking up water like a Bounty paper towel.

Garage List
0-40 is thicker at higher temperatures and thinner at low temperatures than a 5-30.

I'm using 5W-30 on the oil changes between the recommended factory intervals. Only reason I'm using 5W-30 is because a good friend sourced OEM BMW oil for me for free. Have about 8 to 12 more bottles of the stuff. Can't say no to free. Not sure what the dealers use when I have them do the factory included maintenance. I guess I have to look at the work order. I have one more factory service left in my extended maintenance package.

But once I use up the free bottles I have, I'll be going to 0W-40.

Had my car ceramic coated with Opticoat just over a week ago. Hadn't had much of chance to scrutinize the results. Literally drove it back to my house, parked it in the garage, and threw the car cover over it. I did drive it on Monday and did a general look over.

During some reading I found this product:

https://www.carpro-us.com/compounds/...nt-500ml-17oz/

I'll be ordering a bottle to have on hand. Through my readings, this product is sort of a game changer for those who have ceramic coated their cars. It allows "repairs" of areas where some polishing/buffing has been done to remove any scratches or swirls on ceramic coated cars. From reading the various posts, it not only allows "patching" of worked on areas, but it also can fill in minor swirls/scratches on the existing ceramic coating. From reading, you can even use this product by itself on bare paint. So far the professional detailers that have used this product have had nothing but good things to say.

Yep. Carbon Black. Will probably be another few days. It's going to rain here over the next couple of days and I'll be out at the beach with my daughter over the weekend.

Lucky guy. I'm jealous. We had a 114F day last week. In Woodland Hills, more than 20 miles away, it got to 121F. Whew, that's Death Valley temperature. Thank God for a/c. lol

On the subject of oil viscosity... You are all correct according to BMW!

0W-40, 0W-30, 5W-40, and 5W-30 are all approved.

Pulled info from 2009 and 2013 US 1 Series Owner's Manual. The manuals cover all US versions of the 1er, so we're covering all bases here: N52/N54/N55.

I'm a Canadian Member so just under 95000 KM (getting old) Seasons changing over here its officially time to throw up the insulation in my igloo. On a more less serious note... My 1er has a leatherette interior with zero options making it the lightest spec'd 1 you could buy from bmw. That really attracted me into buying it with 45000 km on the clock. I find the seats always stay looking fresh due to the synthetic material, where as the boston leather interior ages much differently compared to the leatherette.

I'd doubt it on 93 octane, if that's what you have. Also depends which stage you are getting. I'm sure you can google and find Dyno videos, but you're most likely going to need to run eth or meth for a reliable 500whp.

Leatherette lasts forever! We had a 28 yr old MB 190E with leatherette and interior still looked mint.

Still though, mint interior!

The leatherette is great in my oner. Near 100k and looks like new.

Ugh, this just means I should really do another application of leatherique this year to keep the leather healthy.

There is something to be said about properly cared for leather over the years/decades, but the durability and ease of leatherette is also worth praise.

I got these from a local tire place with their "winter tire special"

https://www.townfairtire.com/ I just put in my year make and model.

I'm certain a tire place near you can get these for you. But you can also get them from Amazon.com and ECSTuning

I did it your way and it worked! First time getting all four corners on jackstands. Scary the first time and I sure did take my time.

Now on to changing diff and trans fluid.

I took my '13 128 out for an autocross yesterday. I have to say a convertible with an automatic is NOT the optimum autox slayer, but with some bridgestone re71r's installed and running in sport mode with the traction control off, it was a fun day and the car is composed with no push or oversteer when attacking the elements. Overall I was happy with my results and I had fun which in these weird covid days and it was great being outside with friends....
