Squeaky Breaks
Does anyone else run into Squeaky Breaks? BMW just installed new break pads and they still squeak. It's really annoying and I don't know what to do. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, JS.

This seems crazy. Can anyone else back this up? There has to be a safer / less dramatic way to stop the brakes from squeaking.

For new brakes one rule of thumb used to be the 30-30-30 method which is a PITA. 30 MPH stop to a stop fairly aggressive but not panic stop wait 30 seconds repeat 30 times. I try to modify it a little and do 45-25 MPH slows with 20 seconds between I do that about 20 times or so.
As for squeaky brakes that aren't new I've followed what other people have said and it seems to work. Slam the brakes at 40 mph and come to a stop do this 2-3 times and it stops squeaking for a few weeks.

Haha ^ but yes bedding is important. It isn't crazy. Do it at 5 am on an empty road and you'll be safe. Make sure to not stop completely.

Also to add on that point. Don't hold brakes if you need to stop at a stop sign or to park the car....when parking the car roll into the spot while turning off the car and leave it in gear. Don't touch the brakes at all while parking

Brake squeaking is more about vibration. The backing plate will vibrate at a high frequency when applying the brakes hence the "squeaking" sound. The best solution is anti-squeak compound usually added at the time of pad replacement.
