Well I think that settles it, most likely totaled. Sucks cuz I just bought a set of winters for it and the car hadn't even been here in ny for a month, shipping costs down the drain Will update when insurance guy gets here. I am doing well, walked out unscathed (out of the other door of course) Good to know the baby BMW still protects from major impacts like this one!

Sorry to hear about the accident.
You can always buy the wreck back and repair it yourself. My door got hit too and I bought a wrecked door to replace it myself. The rear quarter can be fixed to maybe 70-80% with paintless dent repairi reckon. If you don't need it to be perfect I reckon you could fix it up for pretty cheap. |

My first 128 was way less damage and a total. Airbags destroy the interior. Dash, Seats, headliner, all trashed. Physical damage from hit was a couple thou...the electronics and airbags were 10k + and car was gone. It was so little damage I considered buying stripping and going dedicated track car with the thing. I bet someone fixed that car.
The big thing with yours is the A & B pillar. if those are moved there is NO going back typically. Damn I miss that 1st car. Still love my current one but my first one was so perfect. Start pulling stuff that you can easily remove. I swapped my facelift taillights with older ones, pulled spoiler, shift knob and a bunch of stuff. Company wasn't paying me any extra for it so back to OEM it went. Or if salvage is cheap enough buy it back and strip it. Got to have place to store and work on it though.

From the insurance company's point of view, it is totaled. However, it is very fixable assuming there isn't any frame
or interior damage, and you are willing to do some footwork securing parts and finding labor. It looks like the repairs will be bolting on a door, attaching some panels, and pulling the dent behind the driver's door. The airbag repair might be expensive? Also the paint and body work will likely be expensive. You'll be able to find a small shop that'll do it for small money. Last edited by Happy Jose; 10-30-2019 at 06:19 AM.. |

Wow, that sucks.... Most everyone's comments are spot on. If the repairs of the car = 75% of the value of the car or greater, consider it totaled. Broke my heart when my '08 bullitt mustang was totaled by a hail storm. Still driveable, but I couldn't stand owning a salvage titled car.
As mentioned, if you have go fast parts on the car, you could consider buying the car back as part of the insurance process, but then you have to evaluate your time and cost for removing parts and then getting rid of the carcass. Tough call, but the bottom line is you're still here and ready to fight another day. |

I do have "go fast" parts, but depending on price I get to buy it back may not even be worth it. The $300 ebay headers arent worth shit. Only things actually worth something on the car are the Xenons and the wheels/ brakes but one wheel is smashed.
