I have Liberty Mutual for my car insurance as well. Haven't had to use them for anything yet. Is there anything specific about them that you don't like? Had Progressive before them and Liberty Mutual was cheaper, not that price is everything.

One of the main reasons that I switched to Liberty Mutual is that they would use genuine BMW parts where Progressive wouldn't, at least that's the way it was the last time I looked into it.

Just wondering, thank you. I have several discounts already from Liberty. Home owner, college grad, multi-car, safe driver, BMW CCA membership. I am at $149 @ month.

I use Safeco, which I believe is a division of, or owned by, Liberty Mutual. They insure basically everything I own, not counting my dog or my pecker :-)

Everyone gets multiple "discounts" from these insurers; I think they make up a lot of them and I wonder how much of this is legitimate. They probably have a "Fruit of the Loom" discount, for those who wear their underwear. Safeco has been good, on the few claims I have had, most recently for a vandalized car (not one of my BMWs), and a windshield broken by a rock on the highway. In the latter case, I insisted on BMW glass installed at the dealer, and they reimbursed the $1200 or so that this cost, within about a week of the service being done.

I recently switched from State Farm to Metromile since I don't drive a ton, and went from around $125/mo to around $75/mo for my V70 and 128i. They charge a base fee plus a per-mile charge for your actual mileage, and if you drive 8-10k/yr or less, it definitely makes a lot of sense. It's currently only available in a handful of states but I really hope the model takes off. It's underwritten through one of the major providers so I'm not too worried about having claims processed.

It requires a dongle attached to your OBD2 port all the time to track your mileage, which is a turnoff for some people, but I don't care. Already carrying a smartphone on me 24/7, so I'm clearly not too worried about people tracking my movements. Plus I made cool track maps at my last track day. (The mileage caps at 150/miles per day, which I exceeded just on my drive home, and they don't care about driving patterns, so no real need to remove it at the track IMO.)

I wont go with liberty mutual ever again. I paid for their "better car replacement" and got royally shafted when i was rearended into a concrete barrier and it totaled my last car. They couldnt even pay out enough to replace the car and their gimick for a better car is total BS.

Had a volvo c30 R-design with polestar tune from factory. Pretty much it was a much nicer with a posh interior and shortened wheelbase version of the then euro spec focus RS. Around 300 HP very fun car. I ended up getting about $2500 less than it would cost to replace the car with an exact match. No matter how many links i sent them it was a very hard car to find...

Wow, holy crap you people pay a lot for insurance.

We use State Farm-
2009 135i - $345 / 6 months
2013 x1 - $338 / 6 months

Nice thing about State Farm is that they're big on having local agents. We've know ours personally for years. We don't get any "special" discounts from the relationship, we're not all friendly or anything. But it's pretty damn nice to walk into his office and hear "Hey Eric, what's up?".... It's kind of like he actually values our business or something strange like that

+ 1 for Safeco.

Seriously. I think I pay a bit over $2k/yr for home, autos (2 cars w/ 100/300 limits) + 1M umbrella coverage.

BTW - this site gives an estimate of cost of coverage http://www.realquote.com. Coverage cost varies pretty widely by age, zip, driver history, education, make & model etc.

About to go on a little rant here but I hope anyone who's truly interested in the QUALITY of their coverage will read:

I have now had several different insurance providers; Geico, Allstate, Riders, State Farm, and Liberty Mutual.

Riders, I had one claim when my motorcycle was totaled in a parking lot while I was at the movies, they paid my claim without question in a week. State Farm I never had a claim but felt I was overcharged significantly, so I switched to Allstate.

My two key experiences are with Geico and Allstate. Last year, with Allstate I was in my first "moving" accident in my entire driving career. A lady behind a bus decided to floor it out from her lane to get around the bus and hit my right rear quarter panel, as I was in the middle lane and she was in the right lane. She had Geico and managed to screw me out of my deductible, Allstate stayed with me through the whole thing, kept me up to date, marked me as not at fault even though her insurance was trying to get one over on me. Allstate paid my claim before it was even settled and I was good to go in a week and a half.

I then switched to Geico when I purchased the first 135i since they seemed to have the best rates and I had them years ago. Well 5 months later, this past January, my car was totaled due to hydrolocking on a highway. IT TOOK UNTIL LAST WEEK FOR THEM TO SETTLE THE CASE. That's right, for 8 months I've been paying for a car that I haven't even seen since January 15th because Geico fought payment so hard. And in the end they still shorted the payment and I am extremely fortunate that my GAP insurance (Amtrust Group) came through for me and covered the rest. Geico also tried to raise my insurance payments and make me continue to pay for a car that I didn't even have in my possession anymore. They then tried to mark me at fault for a flood to avoid paying, which my leinholder quickly fought and had dismissed.

So, I dumped Geico as soon as I could and switched to Allstate once more for the new 135. Sure, Allstate is more money, but I know they will back me up and do the right thing.

TL;DR - Geico can go fuck themselves. Allstate has proven themselves to deliver when it counts.

Auto-Owners for cars and home.

Check out Consumer Reports analysis of insurance companies.

BTW, I dumped State Farm for Auto-Owners simply because I got more coverage for the same amount of bucks!

USAA. Great rates and very good coverage (I pay less than $100/mo).
Only problem is that you have to be military, former military, or immediate family of military to bank or insure with them, so they may not be an option for you.

And pay $180/month with an immaculate driving record. Is it the area I live in that drives the prices up? I'd kill for a $100/month rate!!! I've called around and no one comes close

If you're in Hollywood that could be why. I'm in DC and have roughly the same rate at age 25 with immaculate record.

We use ANPAC in Ohio - Full coverage with 250/500 liability limits and $1k collision deductible

2011 135i - $325 / 6 months
2010 Camry - $277 / 6 months

Plus... they have a program (aka trap) which gives you a 25% rebate if you don't have any claims for three years. This is an interesting feature which can put lots of money back in your pocket. But it forces you to do the math every time you have a possible claim... "Should I pay for this ding myself, or should I file a claim and force the three-year clock to reset on my rebate?"
