Anyone regret getting manual instead of automatic?
The manual transmission is very fun to drive but I wish I would have gotten an automatic. I'm just getting so tired of shifting in Los Angeles traffic after owning several manual cars. Anyone else share the same feeling?

The clutch and shifter on the 1 series is so light, I doubt I'll find myself regretting it. I live in the greater LA area so I'm familiar with the stop n go grind.
Of course, every car I've had that I could get with a stick, I've always had with a stick, so I don't think this leopard is going to change his spots. |

nope, personally i feel like driving an auto car just doesn't feel like "driving" because I'm not really engaged in any movement/activity and also I feel like i'm a worse driver because im more inclined to multi-task with an auto car.

Not once, notchiness and all, I'll take this manual any day. A manual transmission demands you participate in the machine, endure it's whims, share it's direction. Real cars have manual transmissions.
I learned to drive in a 1958 Mercedes 190, 4 on the column, that there is how a man does it.

never...the only time i wished I had an automatic was 6 years ago in college when I had to drive from Irvine back up to San Jose on a Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving. A normally 5 hour trip turned into an 11 hour one with stop and go. 3 pedals for me!

I bought my first manual three years ago when I moved to Europe. I have had two cars since then, both being manual tranny. when you look at the cost, weight, mpg and not to forget fun factor, there is no way im going back to a slush box any time soon.

Do what I did, but an auto daily driver. A perfect car is a early E46 325i auto. They can be had for cheap and it'll save the miles, door dings, and potential fender benders off your 135i.

My DD is an auto but I would never have anything but manual on any actual car I drive.
No stupid flappy paddles, no "S" mode... give me a shifter and a man pedal so I can actually drive the car. I can see how some might get sick of manual in traffic (has never bothered me) but think about it this way: You didn't buy the car to sit in traffic. You bought the car to tear up the track or have fun on the street. I think a little pain is well worth the connection and control that a manual transmission affords you. OR get an auto DD and don't even worry about it.

I ordered an Automatic then changed it to a Manual the last day.
Now I had knee surgery and can't drive my car but I love my short shifter. |
