As was said, the only thing for sure that's changing with the HiFi option is that it's being actively marketed as a HK product for 2011. |

I hope the N55 is better than the N54, as it will likely be the replacement to it in the near future. I am the proud owner of a n54, but I would like to see BMW continue to improve their engines. I also like the idea posted earlier that the m1 would get the n55 with two turbos, that engine could probably comfortably put down hp and tq in the high 300's, that and maybe 100+lbs weight loss, nice brakes and suspension would make that a perfect car.
At any rate, my 2008 135 has convinced me that forced induction is a necessity, especially at 6000' MSL.

It might have been the case on a 2008 1 series which had a mid level system as a base and top end as an upgrade which was later changed for 2009 and 2010 MY. In either case, I found no confirmation of any one of these systems being actually build by HK.

Look at all the cool things europeans get just from these photos...
- Sunroof Delete - 135i with Halogens (cheaper!) - Cloth interior - Silver trim without the weird patterning - Storage nook standard instead of smokers pack

i dont really see much change to the 1 series relative to the 128i. The shifter thing is the only thing new, which is already in all X series cars like the 08 X5. So basically no new technology exist in these so called 11' cars. I wish they upgrade their technology like Lexus.

The 2011 may have better mpg, and a broader torque curve, but the n54 is the main reason I wanted the car. The n55 may be awesome (I hope it is), but it wouldn't give me an ounce of buyers remorse. I would be upset if they made cosmetic changes that I liked more than my car. That or if the 2011 had a real increase in hp or torque lets say 350 hp or so. |

Valvetronic may be 10 years old, but turbocharging is about 70 years old.
So valvetronic is relatively new. And expensive. Sorry but I wont believe Edmunds, they have been wrong so many times in the past. I remember when they even wrote a whole article about the N54 and how it has 'a little turbo to spool up before the bigger one!'... Yea, shows how much research they do. I may be wrong, I may be right. But my speculation is the N55 is not a cheaper overall engine than the N54, it is more complex, if you cant see that than you need to go take a course in mechanism design. Show me the cost of both engines side by side, than I will believe you. Until then I say the N55 is not a cheaper engine.

Hey....a cool cloth interior like what was introduced in the 1995 e36 M3 would be great!!! However Halogen headlights??? Dude....no way...might as well go back to starting our cars with a crank inserted in the front grill. Halogens are so inferior to HID Xenons. After driving behind the wheel with HIDs I will never go back to having two candles for light. |
