Heater (Electronic or Conventional)

I was having a discussion over car heaters the other day. And someone mention to me that on more expensive luxury cars, the heaters are sometimes electric so that the heat starts before the car is warmed up.

Does anyone know if the 1 series has electronic heaters or just the conventional stuff.

Thks

It runs off a standard air-water heater exchanger via engine coolant. The car does have a residual heat function which allows it to continue warming the interior for as long as there is heat in the motor or the car detects that the battery won't have enough juice to start the car, at which point it'll stop. Removes the need to leave your car idling while you duck into a shop for a few minutes.

Of course, the heated seats, heated steering wheel, and defrosting rear window / door mirrors are all electric.

So you are saying the engine needs to heat before the heat is transfered to the cabinet.

BTW, you can buy small little heaters that plug into your cigarette lighter socket to provide instant heat...but are you, as a Canadian, really that soft that you can't endure a little cold. What have we become? :iono:

I am totally that soft... I'd like to know if anyone is using an auxillary heater that plugs into their cigarette lighter. If so, which one works the best? I'd love some input!

In Sweden, we have electrical outlets with timers in front of some of our parking spaces. You plug a power cord into that and to a plug under the bumper. There is an engine warmer and an outlet inside that you plug your electric heater into.

So, about half an hour before I leave in the morning, the timer goes off, the juice starts flowing and the engine warmer and cabin warmer turn on. Easier on the engine, no snow or ice to scrape and a nice, toasty car to get into.
