2009 US Convertible - 2 Questions

Could someone tell me:

1) When putting the top up or down, do you have to hold the buttons the entire time?

2) Can you put the top up or down with the remote key?

Thanks

unless they changed it for 09, you do need comfort access to open/close the top with the remote (for north america only)

Hmm, I thought U.S. spec cars couldn't open and close the top with the fob, comfort access or not.

Something to do with how we Americans are too stupid not to trap ourselves or others in moving parts while standing 10 feet away and then suing BMW for not covering the car in foam rubber to prevent it from hurting us.

I do know for fact that I, not having comfort access, cannot move my top with the fob; however, all verts can open and close from outside the vehicle with the key physically inserted into the door handle.

Garage List
I have CA and I use it occasionally to open the top (usually not close, but that works too) the only annoying thing is, you have to be standing RIGHT next to the car, which somewhat defeats the purpose. I can't even really start it as I walk up, it won't do the windows down/top down thing until I am pretty much there.

yeah i agree with Mike.....you do have to RIGHT next to the car (within 4 feet or so) to open/close the top remotely.

if i'd of known this, i don't think I'd of ordered C.A.

and.....if I'd of ordered a coupe 135i, i know for sure I'd avoid the C.A. i think its kind of worthless. but thats my opinion, i know others like it.

When I ordered CA I was under the impression it would open it from up to 12 feet away but like others have found, it only does it when you're standing right next to the car which is brutal.

Having said that, I still like not having to pull the fob or key out of my pocket when opening or starting the car.

Yeah, our cars are pretty well identical except for the wheels. It is a kick ass combination. I get a lot of people coming up and talking to me about it. How about you?

Wow, we all need some people in So Cal so EAS can get their software done and let us open the top from more than 4 ft. I've even talked to the service guys about it only working from 4 ft while pointing to what the book says... They said, "Looks like it works to me"

Get Batteries

I recommend having a couple of spare batteries handy if you are going to use your comfort access key to raise/lower the top very often. I had to replace the battery after maybe six weeks of ownership.

The batteries are a nominal cost but that friend you were showing off your car to won't be impressed when the top down cycle stops in the middle because your battery failed.
