Nice! Specs on tubing diameter? What kind is trim removal or modification is necessary? Do seats rub door cards?

2. I will post pics soon. 3. The driver's seat is a Cobra Suzuka (standard width) and it does not rub anything. The psgr seat is a Suzuka GT (wider) and it touches the door card.

typical of VAC... It's priced about 50% higher than it should be. Not to mention shipping is going to have to be freight and will be awkward as well. $2199 is ridiculous. one could take their vehicle to a custom cage builder and have the same thing duplicated and installed for the same price or less. :thumb down
VSR made a similar roll bar for the E30 M3 and it was on the order of $699-899 |

Typical? What do I sell for the E8x or E9x that is overpriced? As the Lone Star BMW CCA Chapter president and Chief Driving Instructor I'd expect a bit more substance from your posts.
If you can find a proper shop (not a guy doing it on the side out of his home garage) who provides the same exact quality product in <2 weeks in any color for much less $$$ I'd be surprised. From Nov-Apr I sell 3-4 cages a month - most are for other shops who mark them up a bit and sell to their clients. If our pricing was so crazy I doubt we would get repeat business from performance shops as they know what 'reasonable' is more than anyone. I have a Z3M, 2 e36M3s and a E46M3 in the shop for cage work right now. Do you think a legit company like Fall Line would do this roll bar for less that $2199? I don't. Last year we had a track client literally walk away from a 90mph impact with a tree. We ripped out his crap roll cage and installed a proper VAC cage 3 weeks before the event...he would have been toast with the old cage and he said so. Yes, that was a cage and this thread is talking about a bar - but when it comes to safety I'd rather go with someone who has a good track record. I'm not too worried about shipping as there are plenty of cars in the NYC-DC corridor. We prefer the 1 piece construction :-) Quote:

$2199 while on the high side is not outrageous and is actually what I paid for my custom roll bar. And considering how long my custom roll bar took, I would say custom + 3-4 week vs pre-fabbed <2 weeks is comparable.
When I shopped around during the past year, I received quotes for $1500-1800 for a 4 point weld-in roll bar but that did not include a powder coat finish. A lot of local shops can build a bar that gets the job done but if you want something that looks as factory ie gt3rs, you’re going to have to pay up which is what I did. And based on the pictures, I would say this VAC piece qualify as oem looking judging by the paint, welds, etc. Not sure about other regions but this pricing is in line with other shops in the Tri-state area. |

~$2K for a proper bolt-in roll bar is a lot easier to swallow than ~$2K for a frigging muffler and a pipe per the cheapest muffler kits for the e82...the latter being highway robbery, the former being about what I'd consider the right price.

if 2K is the going rate for a roll bar.... then fine.. *shrug* Agree that there are many examples of highway robbery in the VAC catalog. I thought it was interesting that he limited his " outrage" to E8x and E9x parts.. |

M3Adjuster I think when you take a look at the only other production bolt in bar( a 4 piece modular bar @ $1500) for e82 that I could find VAC pricing is not unreasonable especially with the labor rates in this part of the country. Anyway I am just glad that more parts are being produced for us folks on the E82 platform. Cheers, Art

My custom rollbar was $2500 . The VAC bar might be more than some people want to pay but is a fair price. I have VAC sliders, floor mounts and a bunch of other small parts and all have been super high quality parts. |
