From your three choices I would do the M3. I would not own two of the same model cars, I like the experiencing of driving different kinds cars. Saying that, I am looking at the X6 xDrive50i. You get the twin turbo but with a 400 hp V8. My local BMW dealer is getting one in a few weeks to test drive. I drive 100 mile twisty road each way to my weekend house almost every weekend and my truck does ok but it would be quite the drive in an X6. Plus, I would most likely to be able to tow my See-Doo’s or 4 wheelers behind it in the summer. The wife and I do not have dedicated cars, we share them. My wife loves the X6. If we had the X6 that would keep us from fighting about who will drive the 135i.

Good luck and have fun making a decision.

drive the 911, nothing quite feels like a rear wheel drive rear engine car

no offense to vert owners but in my opinion the 1er vert is better matched with your wife than you (esp considering the options you have)

So... the solution?

1. Go ahead and live with "his and hers" 1-Series.
2. She drives her 1er, and I go back to driving my 911 Carrera S again.
3. She drives her 1er, I sell the Porsche, and I get an M3 convertible.

comments / suggestions / advice / solutions?

Where in Cali are you?
Long Beach has a bunch of M3 vert's they can't get rid of, actually all the dealers can't get rid of the verts. AND, BMW just extended the special financing on the 2008's until the end of the year. The lease rates are CRAZY low on the M3's. You should not pay over invoice on a M3 vert. Hell, you may even be able to get a few hundred less than invoice since they're losing money each day it sits there. Nick Alexander tends to give the best prices, but they're in the middle of NO WHERE.

I had a 135 on order with Long Beach and then the M3 deals came out. Then he had to get a Space Grey with Premium/DCT and I was sold, particularly since there are no deals on the 135.

I was going to be a 335/135 garage, but I'm pretty happy with what I ended up with.

Tag, a while ago you gave me some great advice. Please let me return the favor. While the 911 is an awesome car, if I were you would opt for the M3. There is nothing like it!

Thanks! I truly appreciate your feedback. I'm definately leaning towards the M3, but it might just take a significant amount of time to sell the Porsche first. We'll see what happens.

I just can't stand the way the hard top convertibles look when raised (on the M3/335i). The soft top on the 1er was enough to sway me toward it. I'm a convertible guy, I know they're not the fastest or best handling, but for me it's the overall experience. I still don't understand the fascination with hard top convertibles. Heavy, expensive, and unattractive and prone to failure with all the moving parts. Softtops these days are so well engineered that you don't even know you're in a convertible most of the time with the top up.

IAWTP. For some reason, to me, the top-up 3-series convertibles always look like they've just pooed their pants. Darn sexy with the top down, though.

Come to think of it, they remind me a lot of tequila Mondays at Esmeralda's in university...

Hers 1 and His M, only way to go.

E92/93 M for sure, I would not want to have a garage with two identical cars, the Porsche is nice but I'm sure you've gotten use to driving that by now.

One of the best things about this board is the selflessness of the members.

Of course I love my wife. I think you missed the whole point. I love her enough to give her first rights to a 1-Series if she really wants it... or a 3-Series if it's what she wants... or any other car that she wants. I'm willing to take plan B. I just don't know yet what she is going to select, and I personally don't want to own the same car she finally chooses... but I am clearly giving her first choice.

So, yeah, I certainly love my wife. But, let me add, I don't need to prove it by buying her a car. I show it in other ways, such as by being there for her in times of need and by being a devoted dad to our kids.

Sorry, my bad.

I thought you just wanted to have a better car than her.

I would pick the M3...
