N52 engine noise!!!!!!

Hey all!

Newly developed noise coming from the engine bay.

It starts at startup, subsides after warming up, increases at acceleration, deepens when switching gears.

Attached is a video file of the car starting up and revving in neutral.

I've scoured the internet and it sounds like it could be a few things. Possibly the AC compressor pulley bearing or somewhere else in the accessory belt system.

I appreciate the help in advance.

This can be anything connected to the serpentine belt. you need to figure where the sound comes from. Subsiding after warm up is usually bearing related. Iīd replace the belt and tensioner because those are the cheapest parts and go from there. If noise comes from passenger side itīs the AC compressor. If the noise comes from driver side it can be the servo pump or alternator.

Solution maybe?

Thanks Pete. My mechanic is aligned with your thinking. He quickly noticed that it's from the passenger side and more than likely the AC pulley bearing.

It's still blowing freezing cold air so he wants to just try the AC clutch replacement kit and go from there.

I'll keep you posted if you're interested.

Might do the rest of the belt system while in there right?

pull the belt and spin the idlers and other pulleys. You may find it is a bad idler bearing.

Start the engine without the belt and confirm no noise continues.

Belt can be off and on in mere minutes with only a 3/8 " ratchet wrench to pull the tension off the tensioner.
