205 to skinny

I have 205 50 17 winters on my 135 which are done and they always broke loose on dry payment. i was thinking of going 225 45 17 any thoughts issues ?

i primarily drive this car in winter when roads are not covered in snow and when dry & cold any recommendations for a good brand or tire for this use case.

Had 205/50/17 Hakka R2 on mine for a year. They could put power down better than my MPSS. Only tires that could handle full throttle 1st gear launches.

What tires are you running?

IMO,
With a tire that narrow you need to keep and eye on the load rating. from what I've experienced, a higher load rating will translate to a stiffer sidewall and a sportier feeling tire, maybe some loss of comfort (play with air pressures).

IIRC you want to stay above a 90 index.
Just a quick look at tire rack, I'm seeing a 84 and 88. The 88 would be acceptable but the 84 would not.

The width isn't a huge deal. But that load index is.

I'm running 215/45 VR 17 versions of these on Moda wheels - work well, and they were less than $100 a corner from Discount Tire (last year).

Just did this. We have so-so winters (Mid atlantic) and I have a truck for real snow.
