I installed some floor mat anchors in the original M-sport carpet mats. In all of my other cars I use some sort of all-weather mat, but I only use this car in nice weather so I've been good with the carpet mats. Had to drill out a hole, then clip the trim on, then screw the anchors into the carpet, but these seem to be working really well.

Also, just heard some squeaking noises from the steering wheel - ugh. Clockspring maybe?

Rear brake pads (Akebono from FCP Euro) and a new power steering fluid reservoir (Lemförder, also from FCP). The latter has been leaking ever so slightly since I bought the car, so it was just time. Replaced whatever fluid I could suck out from above with nice, clean CHF11S at the same time.

Oh, and I noticed there's a nice, fat lip on my front rotors now – they have ~20K miles on them, but I'm guessing the Car Control Clinic I did a few weeks back put the final nail in the coffin – so now have Zimmerman rotors and EBC Redstuff pads on order from FCP.

I recently replaced my stock m-sport struts, shocks, and springs. I'm probably just going to recycle the struts and shocks but is there a second hand market for the m-sport springs?

Last time I was on the market for brake pads I did not find any Akebonos for my E88. I used those on my E90 and like them because there is no brake dust ever. I had to go with Brembos for my E88. So far so good. Ltttle brake dust but overall good. I also bought Zimmerman rotors. 👍

My current front pads are insanely dusty. Replaced under previous owner, so I don't know what they are for sure, but they may be "World Brake Resources"

Hoping the ECS pads will be a good compromise between performance (HPDE even coming up) and dust.

Just picked up a couple of sets of E46 transmission mount bushings…
Why they are as expensive as they are, I don’t know…
Hopefully they make a difference!

I bought a used set to convert my base model, and I couldn't be happier. I think I paid ~$125 shipped.

E46 M3 trans mounts? I did these a couple months ago.

I remember the price being a little annoying too, like $80 or something. But I also didn't want to get something too rowdy on my daily.

I also did motor mounts at the same time, and although squeezing them in and out was super tight, the job was surprisingly easy. The trans mounts take like 20 minutes.

Shifter feels a lot more positive, and although it's hard to say how much of the difference comes from the old parts being (120k miles) worn vs the increased durometer, I definitely don't regret it. The motor mounts made a huge difference in smoothness too!

Just had my car in for the OPG replacement, and the indie replaced the motor mounts (stock, nothing special). I was skeptical, but what a difference in the smoothness of the driving! Shifting is now more precise as well. Didn't realize why the car was becoming more sloppy, but this proves how important these are. Why they break in the first place is still a mystery to me, I don't beat on the car and I know the original owner did not, either.

Oil change for The Wife's X1, and a shopping day for the 135

Just ordered a new drivers side seat belt to clear the left side tensioner air bag code, and a wheel speed sensor for the drivers rear. Should leave the dash clear of codes

(edit to add: ) There are a lot of used seat belts out there on ebay and the like, but I'm just not comfy getting used safety parts like the belt, and I found a new one for $236 including shipping & tax, really why take the chance!

Yesterday was car wash day for both the 1 & X1 and the GTI. Today all three are green again...
((sneezes....))

motor & trans mounts, like suspension, just wear sooo s l o w l y that you don't notice how bad it gets...

till it's not anymore, and you're marveling at the change and wonder how in the heck you could ever let it get that way.

Happens to everybody

My son had a very tall shift knob that came off his car and I gave it a shot.

It turned my great BMW PE shift lever into a weird too tall, too long travel, very easy to shift gear change.....

And I swapped it right back over to the M sport one I normally run....

How many miles did you have on the old mounts?

112K. However, my F10 528i needed them with only 60k. And my prior E85 M Roadster needed them at 60k. That's really what I meant by short life. I could understand 112k.

Changed my oil yesterday after 6 track days, still need to ship the sample off to Blackstone.

Also ordered some Apex Arc-8s at 17x8.5 sqaure with some Hankook R-S4 tires to go with. And new track pads too, went with the Pagid RSL 29.

For anyone curious, the Hawk HPS 5.0 did not hold up well on track. They’re not a track pad, so I didn’t expect them to, but the pad fade was pretty bad. I was only able to run 1-2 laps before having to take a lap to cool them down, even while braking at 75%.

what track pads did you order this time around? I'm running RPF1 18x8.5 sq, love the way it changed the car handling.
