I don't see anything listed on their website for anything BMW, so I really hope they didn't swindle the OP with either the Alpina or Sport transmission flash... How's it drive now Fone? Does it now show what gear you're in at all times? (D1-D2... S1-S2...)

Is their flash proprietary?

What we're getting at is this - can this shop read/write to the TCU unimpeded? That would be beyond outstanding but i'm skeptical.

I gave them a call last night in order to try and get more information. They seem extremely nice, even after I asked if it was just an Alpina or Sports TCU flash. They don't have too much information on it yet since it still hasn't been finalized. He also mentioned (like OP did), that the flash is applied through something similar looking to an access port.
He said he's flashed a couple N54s with the software and results have apparently been great, I'm waiting for a call back with more information once he has it.

Pats, they claim it is indeed developed in house.

Holy crap. IF that is true, this is the only group of folks on planet earth (outside of BMWAG and Alpina) who have the ability to read/write the TCU with proprietary code on these transmissions.

That's seriously incredible news for 6AT owners. This is what's held the hardware side of things back. I'll call them after work for more details. They either have extraordinarily good command and control systems engineers, a huge budget, or somehow got all of the code from someone in the know.

Potential TCU control may have been achieved, see the above. No idea if this is true but obviously that's a game changer if possible.

Sure. It's just my opinion but i've felt that the hardware side is the "easy" one to figure out. There's some room for additional clutches, shims, all that jazz. That's all in place and has been for several years.

However if the ultimate goal is to reduce slip between gears and have higher clamp pressure during the shift event, we'll need control over the TCU. In the past LVL10 and 517 builds have failed, this is speculating but i'd guess it's because the TCU relearns over time and simply learns the clamp pressure and shift speed downwards to OE values. Which is back to square one, just with expensive hardware.

So if we now have the ability to read/write and understand how the TCU interacts with the DME, that would more or less set the table for viable 6AT upgrades. The fastest N54s will be autos if this is the case.

I'm skeptical but hopefully this company proves me wrong.

I haven't been around here long enough to know the limitations of the auto trans or the currently available reflashes. Could someone expand on why this would be a game changer? What are the real advantages of someone being able to know access and tune the TCU?

yep subscribed

First off thanks for showing me this 135Pats;

second off, he is right ^ this would be a total game changer for us. No one has been able to truly rewrite the TCU code. So even those that have been in a while know that without this ability hardware mods will only do so much. The actual potential of our transmission hasnt been discovered. people who have big singles and have to let up between shifts, well that might be a thing of the past. If we can do this and the tranny holds true, only a few generally cheaper tranny mods and guys rocking 700+hp will be able to hold the gas down and just FLY. Record breaking if this is true..

looks like im driving down to Miami. please please keep us updated. again thanks 135

hi guys, wow i didnt know this was such a hot topic!
I'll share what I can. Im good friends with the guys that own RSC. i was at their office last week and they were doing TCU upgrade on an LP560. More jokingly than not i asked if they have a TCU upgrade for my 135. There lead software guy says YES!!
They installed tune with a small module direct to obd2 in about 5 minutes. We drove car immediately after and noticed a difference, was told there will be a slight adaption period. I have about 75 miles on it now its brilliant.
as its explained to me it not only decreases shift times in all modes it makes regular D driving much more spirited - prior to this i always drove in DS.
Additionally, again as explained to me they are adjusting torque values allowing more torque to pass through trans resulting in what feels like more low/mid grunt.

i would like to go on record that my vehicle is stock other than eibach springs.

I have asked the guys at RSC if they would put together a group buy package for the forum. waiting for reply.

Fone, does your instrument cluster look any different? Does it still say "D" and "DS" in normal drive/sport? Any gear indicators next to the letters?

We're trying to get a sense for how much control they have over the TCU. If their TCU flash is 100% proprietary, that essentially answers the question for us.

To our knowledge the only people on earth with control over the TCU are BMWAG, Alpina, and that's it. So for obvious reasons if this shop has found a means of reading and writing to the TCU whatever they please, that's an enormous step forward. Frankly it would be the biggest news for the 6AT since the platform was released to the public, from an enthusiast standpoint.
