Detailing my M135i at last

Hi Guys thought I would share this with you.
I have had the BM for about bought second hand from a main BMW stealer in the area.
On initial inspection of the car there were a few noticeable light scratches in predominately in the roof and a couple on the bonnet.
However from past experience I knew that once I had washed, decontaminated and clayed the vehicle with all the filler polish that those guys use removed there would be more being a metallic black car.
I was quite surprised that it didn’t seem that bad, with light marring only in some spots which is a complete contrast to the holographic horror of the last BM I bought form them.
So day off and I had at it.

First,
Citrus applied and power washed off.
Snow foamed with Valet Pro.

Power washed and dried.
Iron X applied and power washed and dried again.
Clayed the bonnet and wings as the days are short.

Flex 3401 VRG with a Lake County Hybrid light cutting pad using 3M Perfect-it III Extra Fine Compound as it is a relatively new car, 6 to 8 passes. On reflection should have used a more aggressive pad or compound as the paint is rock hard!

Polished with the flex again and a Lake County Hybrid Polishing pad using 3M Perfect-it III Ultrafina SE Polish. Fist time working with 3M as I bought a 3M polisher from James_R on this very forum and I am mightily impressed with the work time you get, and I know it is cold this time of the year, but still superb. Unfortunately rain was forecast so I wanted to crack on rather than taking photos. I then applied Migliore Cima Sealant bought from the recent group buy offer.

Then I applied my favourite Zymol Titanium wax by hand, got through half the bonnet and it started to spot with rain, so double timed to get the bonnet covered.

Then the rain came so gratuitous beading porn shots then, and a good time to compare Zymol with DoDo Supernatural Hybrid wax that I applied to the roof after a very light polish around 8 weeks ago.

Zymal

The Serengeti grass shot.

A couple of close ups of the beading

The roof protected by Supernatural.

Even I can see the difference. So today, when it stopped raining washed and dried the car and clayed the rest of the body work using a Farecla G3 Clay Mitt and Megs QD, as I have clayed the car with Megs clay bar previously.
Taped up and loaded for bear.

Cracked on and got the roof right side of the car done using the Flex and a 3M rotary with a DoDo spot pad to tackle the nadgery bits. Then it got to 3pm the sun went down and condensation stopped play.

However here is a compulsory reflection shot.

This before I use the 3M Perfect-it III Ultrafina SE Polish which weather permitting I will finish off tomorrow.

Well since the car has not moved one inch, the rational behind it is that after a thorough decontamination as previously described I would rather leave it on the drive and just wash when I go to attempt to finish the paint correction.

I have been driving around in my Jeep, which I have to say is in total S*!t order now, (bows head in disgrace, at least it flew through its MOT without a sniff of an advisory thought

That was the plan, but the weather did its best to convert this into Murphy's law. So after taking a few days off this week due to having to use my holidays entitlement I was hopeful that I could have at it to finish the job off.

So today after many false starts I actually got the opportunity to continue. My priority was to finish the first stage of correction and I am happy to report that this was achieved. Done with the assistance of a Air Force Blaster which really helped in the speed up of the drying process. (Bought from http://www.cardryers.co.uk/ ) Colin who handled my order was impeccable for information and service thoroughly recommended.

When I first used it I thought I had dropped a blob in buying it as it did not seem to be working as I had hoped.

The reason being as I was using the fan attachment to try and dry the car it was well a bit pants.

So I took it off after a while and eureka, just using the rubber outlet it is fantastic.

So managed to complete the correction to a degree that I would have to be satisfied with for now, at least the first stage is done in a sympathetic way considering the hardness of the paint (BMW = Bomb Proof).

Put a holding finish on the roof using Meg Ultimate Polish and applied a coating of Primo Wax that came with a group buy of Clima Sealent.

Had a chance to use the Air Force Blaster, here is a shot of the bonnet which has had Zymol Titanium Wax applied.

After applying Zymol as it was getting dark, I finally finished it jumped in the shower to come back out to this.

and tried for a reflection shot.

So that's it until the spring comes.

Thanks for your patience.
