Slightly disappointed in DP install

So.. I threw on my downpipe and charge pipe this week along with flex fuel wires. I got to say charge pipe peace of mind was worth it, but the downpipe.. I don't know that I feel that drastic of a change. It's odd. It def pulls harder and I can feel the MPH 60-120 go faster but maybe I was expecting too much

Anyone else experience this?

Charge pipe won't do anything for power, but its good you got it. I have a N54 and When I put my downpipes on I wasn't to impressed either. Before my down pipes i was running 30% E85 and my car felt very good. I felt like the car got more power with E85 than it did with DP's. Try adding another gallon of e85 do you're at least running 30% and see how it feels.

Going with catless or high flow catted downpipes by themselves isn't worth that much power but they reduce back pressure on the turbos and makes their lives a lot easier. Anything you can do to improve the engines breathing is a step in the right direction even if it doesn't mean a lot of net power gains.

I wouldn't say I felt a power increase per se but spool time was defintiely reduced. Almost felt instant compared to stock downpipes haha

i think the issue was that i ran 2 gals of e85 prior to DP install and it was super cold like in the 50's when I did that.. now it is back in the 90s and while it feels just as fast as it that day thought it would completely transform the car..

onto a bigger turbo!

Since you already had the JB4, you won't notice the 10-15 hp you gained from the down pipe. I didn't notice it either.( the Dyno did) I'm already looking at the Pure Stage 2 turbo upgrade! lol

As mentioned above, catless DP will make your turbos life a lot easier by reducing back pressure. Also if you dyno your car, you will clearly see that you got 20+ whp

My car was so much better with DP's and a fmic!

It was so punchy down low (turbos spooling up quicker) and I gained 22 RWKW with a FMIC & DP's

One thing I realized but my car is in the shop now for something else is.. I was only putting in 3 gallons of E85, but I filled the tank which is 14 gallons.. which is about 20%!

When people say they put E50 on their car is it 5 gallons or 50% E85? so to get to 40% I'd have to fill 5 gallons in the car of E85?

Looks like 6.5 gallons of pump 93 and 7.5 of e85 will net you e50.

Did you log before the downpipes?

Downpipes will give you a much better throttle response / turbo spool and allow you to run higher mapping. If you were to run exactly the same map / boost as before downpipes the gains will not be as noticeable.

E50 is 50% E85, for 40% e85 E40,on a empty tank it would be .4 x 14 which is 5.6 gallons, E30 .3 x 14 = 4.2 . Im not usually all the way empty when I mix, The car says I have at least 20 miles left on the tank, I always put about 4.2 gallons E85 so I figure Im around 30% maybe a little more each time I fill up.

I ran 2 gallons of e85 on map 5 on a 60 degree nite and car felt furious I was expecting more but now its hot and I only put an extra gallon of e85 with my flex fuel wires I think if I put in 4.5 and a fmic I should get the change I'm expecting

It's not exactly complex math to figure out how to get a given ethanol concentration (ex. E50, E20, E70) starting with only an 85% mix. You can do this with a 3rd grade math education. Using E85 as the base stock and mislabeling a 50/50 mix of gas as "E50" makes me want to gouge my eyes out.

You're right, I did not consider the fact that E85 is only 85% Ethanol. So 50% E85 and 50% 91 would not be exactly E50, but it is not that far off considering regular gasoline is already 10% ethanol, right or wrong? I never said you will have and accurate mix everytime, that would be impossible unless you are filling up your tank with the same amount of gas every single time you pump.

update:

I took the car into the dealer, before I asked my SA straight out what is your dealers standing on aftermarket mods, and he asked me what did I have done? I told him CP/DP and he said what does that have to do with an oil leak? and I was like YESSSSS nothing!!!

I think I get car back on Monday.. I also ended up having a valve cover gasket leak they were looking at also hopefully all gets done.

I was really scared about modding my car for this reason but it all depends on the dealer, he told me if I had 'driveability' issues it would be a diff story..
