Z4 e89 m-sport steering wheel installed!
Not sure if the photo attached (mobile app) but just installed a z4 m-sport steering wheel on my 128i. Unlike the 135i wheels, this m-sport has heat and the upgraded leather

Thanks!
Straight up install. Problem is, getting a airbag. There isn't a single one online, from anywhere, that is used and the proper part number. Getting one internationally will get you a single stage airbag which won't work. I learned that the hard way :-/ Anyways, I had to buy 2 airbags from Lithuania to entice the seller to ship, so if anyone sources a wheel, let me know and I can sell you my spare |

Was buying two still cheaper than getting one from the BMW parts counter?

Much cheaper. Don't want to disclose in case I have to resell ;-)
Just kidding. I'd give a good deal. Also, airbags can't be shipped via air.... You'll get fined. So some sellers know certain shippers and ways to get it through. The steering wheels are fairly cheap though.... Search "e89 lenkrad" on ebay.de The airbag part number is 6785364 |

Wow! Ive never even considered this. It looks fantastic!
How is the Z4 wheel compared to the 1er MSport in terms of size, shape, and feel? |

I can do a side by side w my sport wheel maybe tomorrow (non m-sport but same size).... And the leather is a little more plush than the m-sport and seems to have more girth.

Wow - looks great! I've never liked the look of the 128i steering wheel (that stupid silver trim!) but I've been hesitant to switch to the M-Sport or Performance wheels because I don't want to give up the heat function (even though I rarely use it, I do think it's cool, and maybe more importantly, I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars and LOSE functionality, just on principle).
Anyway, I've always admired the Z4 wheels, I never even considered that they might fit. I'm gonna have to do this sometime! So, I assume the 1er "sport" airbag does NOT fit, then?

Yup it did have heat already so no retrofitting required for that.
I wonder how hard it would be to do otherwise? It's a great option in the winter... Never thought i'd like it so much |

Um, ya. Hated the fact I had to loose that option by going with the M Sport Wheel. I live in Canada fuck, give me my heated wheel!

I tried sending you a pm, but your inbox is full.
I have bought an e89 steering wheel as well, but the seller asks me what kind of airbag I need. Do you know which one will fit the E92? I guess E8x and E9x have the same wheels and connectors. There is one with green and black pins and one with just a black. |

I'd say good luck finding an airbag, because they are nearly impossible to find, but I actually have one, brand new. I have the only one available on the secondary market i've seen anywhere |

I'm thinking of installing one on my 2011 E90 335i to replace the OEM heated sport steering wheel with shift paddles. I think it should work since delmarco was able to install the Z4 sport steering wheel (your old steering wheel, right?) on his 2011 E90 335xi. Also, do you have a picture of the original steering wheel on your car that this wheel replaced? What is the difference between them? thanks! Last edited by DrRobert; 01-12-2017 at 02:06 PM.. |
