TGS N55 PPK Install

I had Joe from TGS install PPK on my 2011 N55 135i last night. After about 1 hour of time, most of which was getting the laptop setup with the software and PPK files, Joe was done and I rolled the car out for a quick test drive.

The PPK certainly improved the throttle lag with my DCT. Just in "D" there is not much difference from pre-PPK that I can tell, but I rarely drive in "D". With the sport button on (how I normally drive) there are some extra burbles and pops and it just feels a little more "responsive". If you put the shifter over and put it in S-mode the burbles on deceleration are crazy (good).

I would be unhappy with the dealer cost of the PPK but this was a great update from TGS - well worth the cost of the coding. I am computer handy and I wouldn't be able to do what Joe did again. Props to them for the update!

Have fun! I love it on my car and I'm a sucker who had the dealer do it when it first launched.

It would be great if they could modify the PPK to get closer to Dinan while keeping the reliability. BMW made the gains minimal because of the 1M, I'm assuming.

I did the same as you and had PPK since 2011 when it first came out and loved it. No regrets! Now with Dinan there's more power plus all my pops and crackles are still there. You should do it Yeineken. Dinan lowered the price so it's not as expensive. Yes, still not cheap, but worth it to me.

It's on my list! Once I recover from the initial investment in the new DD.

I may wait since it's a nice shock moving from the 150HP ford to the 320HP BMW on the weekend now. Might start focusing on suspension since my interior is close to done.

Yeah I didn't go full "M" mode as I just didn't even think about it! I was having too much fun with it in sport mode. I am sure that it will be a hoot.

I am not knocking anyone who paid dealer prices for it, especially when it first landed. Now that it is available via third party it would be crazy to pay dealer pricing on it.

LOL! I noticed a significant driveability difference in "D" and had fun with THAT for a week or two.

I've seen dealer prices as high as $800 and have heard of some people getting as low as $500. Talk to TGS and find out for yourself. It'll be worth the PM you send. Trust me.

As to your second question. I've seen a lot of people on here doing PPK to accompany JB4.

Joe at TGS will be installing PPK on my 2012 with DCT sometime in the next week or so. I am waiting for the cable, then have to find a time. I will post an update once we are done.

Before you pay too much at the dealer, you may want to speak with our coder Joe@topgearsolutions

Now that Cobb supports the latest ROM (98G1B), that's one less roadblock to having it installed. Now you won't need a DME rollback, or having to worry about which version of the PPK to install.

Even though this is the PPK from BMW, it's not installed by them. Do you all think this would interfere with an aftermarket warranty?

That's the only thing holding me back for something like this.

Thanks!

Edit: Also would it be a good idea to update to the latest software, THEN getting the PPK?

I had the BMW performance power kit setup today (2012 N55 135 I M ) I quickly realized that the car is definitely more responsive at all RPM ranges. Throttle response is different and for the better.
Two thing for sure is that it completely changed the exhaust sound it's is much deeper and louder from 2k+ rpm and the burble is Beautiful on any gear went you release the gas Burble,Burble:b ulge:,,,,,,,, I don’t thing need to add downpipe sound great and the power is good for go to point A to B… ….The car really rumbles now. I think the sounds make the car feel faster
The new software re-mapped the shift logic in the DCT, gears seem to be held a little longer, and shifts are quicker and crisper.!!!!!
I am very happy with the upgrade. Money well spent in my book, and having full BMW warranty support is good peace of mind.

So just to double check, the latest software update is included in the ppk? Also if I may ask how much was it from bmw?

PPK stage one is just a flash tune. It is an update to your DME. The tune just changes some DME tables for more performance oriented driving (a little more boost, a throttle remap, fueling and air changes...)

The dealer has no other choice than to flash the latest DATEN files to your car with the dealer software they use. That means you will leave the dealer with the new "rom" version along with the modified tune.

Daten files contain every DME flash available for your car that BMW developed, including the PPK tune. That is how people flash PPK on their own without a code. you can use winkfp, a more powerful program than dealers use, to flash the car with the PPK tune without the code (so long as you know which tune/ZUSB number the PPK is otherwise it just updates you to the latest stock DME software). You also don't have to upgrade every module in your car like the dealer is forced to do when they use their software.

I see! So thats how aftermarket tuners can give the PPK at a much lower price because they find the tune in a Daten file of an PPK'd car. They just have to do some sort of messing around to get the tune/zusb number... Thanks mang
