Prepping for winter - Rally 135i lol
Those of you who drive your cars year-round (not the lucky ones with another DD lol), do you do anything special to get it ready for the snowy season? I used to love getting my cars all prepped for winter.
Common mods being:
I enjoy adapting my cars from season to season to fit the conditions, it's like "re-modding". I already have the wheels/tires, wipers, and RainX taken care of, the rest is TBD. Anyone else have a winter prep plan?

I have two motorcycles I am able to ride at least one weekend a month in the Winter months (N.VA/Raleigh), so never put any vehicles away for the Winter months.

BUT seriously, is extra lighting truly necessary? (Genuine question because I also live in socal and don't experience snow) does visibility get bad enough that you're going to want extra lighting? At the end of the day, I understand if it's just a 100% safety thing. It's better to be safe than sorry. Last edited by PopsnBurbles; 12-07-2016 at 03:06 PM.. |

Don't understand the need for extra lighting since it is so hard to drive with high beams during snowfall. #milleniumfalconlightspeed
I do Gtechniq G1 on all windows once every two years. Mudflaps. Blizzaks. I wish i had neon lighting underneath my car!

Hadn't heard of the Gtechniq G1, I'll have to try that out. Looks like it might be quite a bit more resilient than RainX

Snow tires
Winter windscreen washer fluid Winter rubber floormats (OE BMW) Snow chains Snow shovel These are all obvious and essential things. Nothing special. Paint protection / car detail, I do all year round and whenever I have time. Mud guards are fucking ugly and no additional roof rack lighting is needed. Dis ain't a Jeep.

Touchy!
Well, I don't think they look bad and I think some others feel the same. BTW, that pic is of 3002 tii's car. Edit: actually, I don't think he owns the car anymore. Last edited by Esteban; 12-07-2016 at 05:13 PM.. |

It lasts me a whole two upstate NY winters. 90% of the time I don't have to scrape ice off my windshield. And if I do it requires minimal effort as the rest of time I just use my windshield wipers and all the snow and ice just slides off like unfrozen water. As a matter of fact, I never use my windshield wipers when it rains.

OR... For all the money you're gonna spend decking out your 1er for winter, just buy a s***box subaru or audi with snow tires and drive it when it snows.

If things fall into place, my 1er will relinquish its daily and winter duties to a very well equipped 6MT E91 325xi. She's on blizzaks and all but my short commute and shitty roads just make winter driving a pita

Snow tires, mud flaps, snow brush, small shovel, ice melt, gloves, winter jacket, hat, a couple bottles of water left in the interior and trash bags.

Toilet paper is essential, as well as old towels in the trunk just in case. And a clean MF towel for that quick dash & windows wipe at the traffic lights. Can't stand dusty interior.

I never have dust in my car because I exfoliate my entire body before driving my 1er.
