Thinking of selling/what's it worth?
Sorry for the long post car has 53k. So I'm up in the air if I want to hold on to my 135i for the long haul. I'm the 3rd owner I bought the car early summer of 2013. The car was in a minor accident with a bicyclist from the previous owner that was fixed under insurance. The Car only has M-sport package and adaptive headlights. Cars an auto jet black on black. So what's the car worth? I see KBB has a very good example listed between 11-13k.
Maintenance: -oil change/spark plugs/vacuum lines 53k -full brakes(pads rotors) all around 48k -walnut blasting 50k -transmission/diff flush at 43k -coolant flush 43k Mods -m3 front control arms/sway bars -m3 rear subframe bushing -m3 upper/lower guide rods -HP adjustable toe arms -TC Kline coil overs/camber plates(5k on them) -MHD stage 2 -VRSF downpipes/Cobb FMiC -ER charge pipe/tial blow off valve -berk mids/axle back -alpina tuc flash -BMS dual cone -RB inlets(not installed) Cosmetic mods -slek single sided carbon fiber truck -upgraded angel eyes -slek front lip(new in box) -m3 paddle shifters -hand laid carbon fiber interior trim(looks amazing) I'm sure I'm missing couple other things.

If your car is a 2010 as seen on your profile then the KBB listing is pretty accurate, maybe a little more with the mods and wheels.

Just bought my 2011 with 70k miles for ~16k, so I'd say 14-15k for yours is a good starting price at least

no disrespect to the OP .. ive noticed in all aspects , atvs, street bikes , etc... and im sure im not telling you anything new...
your custom parts are solely worth a ton of gold to you.. the next person is probably gonna customize to his likeing.. whenever I sell anything upgraded I don't count on getting my money back from all the upgrades .. in some aspects it looks bad on the seller cuz it gives the impression you raced or whatever.. If u want top dollar.. sell the upgrades separately and milk the car as stock... imo... u have too many upgrades that ur not gonna get nearly as much as you've spent.. its happened to me many times ;(

No offense taken, I'm going to keep the car not going to lose money on this just to dump money into another car. Perhaps a single next spring? Lol why not? let's dump more money into the pit.

Yeah, there aren't a ton of these cars for sale in my area, so I expanded my search nationwide. I also specifically wanted a car that had the N55 engine, DCT, M-sport package, and Harman-Kardon stereo, which also narrowed down the options quite a bit. I searched for 2-3 months and during that time compiled a spreadsheet of price vs mileage for the cars that met all my requirements. From that sheet, I could come up with a fairly representative average asking and selling price for all the cars I had seen online. (Actual sale price was likely lower than what I plotted because sale price was assumed to be the last price listed before the ad was removed) Based on that, I bought my car for about $1000 below average which seems like a decent deal to me!

I like to be thorough when I make medium/big purchases...guitars, guns, car parts, TVs, speakers, etc all get researched for months before I buy
And I actually got the Idea for the graph because they have the same thing on cars.com haha

I'm the same way. I don't feel comfortable until I've run the numbers a few dozen times on any major purchase. I do the same for my eBay sales, and I even run statistical analyses on golf scores

I find what I like and buy it, I do try to keep the price in line with what I see nationwide but never quibble about a 1000 one way or the other. I wanted a 135is black/black 6spd with only HK as an option and would have preferred no sunroof. Happy with mine with no HK with only heated seats as an option.

The older a used car gets, the more each sale becomes a "one-off." This is especially true with lower volume cars, like a used 1-Series. The newest 1-Series cars are just now coming off of warranty (I have two, 2013s, in that situation just now).
There will be fewer and fewer data points (sales transactions) of desirable 1-Series cars going forward, due to the fleet "wearing out" as a whole, and the loss to accidents, high mileage, and uneconomical repairs resulting in cars getting "parted-out." I'm not saying that the cars will start becoming more expensive (although that may happen to some extent), rather that there won't be enough sales of lower mileage cars in good condition to draw any sort of pricing conclusions from. The online pricing engines will show continual depreciation in the car's value, which will have the unfortunate result of having insurance companies total them out for accidents that are easily reparable, e.g. the standard for a car going on to having a "salvage" or other branded title will be reduced, and this will further reduce the pool of "desirable" 1-Series cars available for resale. At this point I would certainly look at the pricing engines and any other resale information I could find to try to arrive at what a given used 1-Series car is worth. If I was a seller, I'd try to get all that I could out of a used 1-Series that the market would bear, realizing that there is a pretty small pool of potential buyers out there. As a buyer, I would not look for the cheapest deal, rather I would look for the best car I could find at a reasonable price. I wouldn't hesitate to pay up a few thousand dollars for a pristine, well-maintained example, since these cars, if poorly maintained, can run you into the ground financially. I would not pay up for aftermarket mods on a car, and as a seller I would not expect to recoup much or anything for money expended on modifications. |
