OFHG Job - What is this??

Hi, I'm doing the OFHG and about to remove and replace the tensioner. The existing one on the car does not have this silver pin but on the new one it does. What's the purpose and do I leave the pin in or remove it after installation? Thanks in advance!

Remove after install. There are many DIY videos that illustrate the install. See Bavauto or Pelican Parts.

Literally just did this yesterday. The pin holds the tensioner in an unlocked phase so you have room to slip on the belt. Once the new belt is in place, you pull the tensioner (with a tool from the star shaped socket on the right of the pin), and you slide the pin out, and bam. Tensioner locks into place.

Much easier if you have someone to pull the pin out for you while you hold the tensioner open

Not enough space for two hands down there. Double chance of slipping the T60 out of the soft cast hole and making a mess.

As others answered, it's a disposable packaging item. Keep it for smashing out Brembo brake caliper pad pins!
