Do you recline your seat on an airplane?

This question specifically applies to domestic flights (within the US) in coach. International travel is excluded as there's no debate the flights are longer and people have to sleep.

I take note of the size of the person sitting behind me. If it is a tall guy like myself crammed in there, then no. If it's a child or woman, usually yes.

I don't, but there's nothing stopping anyone else from doing so if they wish it.

Very similar to Xutvjet. I try to be courteous as possible especially in reference to long flights. The amount I use to travel was one of the reasons I wanted to get in pretty good shape - a lot more comfortable on those long flights when you're smaller in size haha

I always do, but not to the stops. My old back cannot otherwise take it.

Depends on the length of the flight and who is behind me. And also if the person in front of me reclines, I almost have to recline a bit to get some breathing room back. The only time it really pisses me off is on really short (30min) flights from the local airport to O'Hare. The plane is tiny and the seats are already cramped as hell, yet I've had people in front of me drop their seat all the way back the second the wheels leave the tarmac. It's like, "You can't leave your seat up for 30 freakin' minutes?"

I had the rear-most aisle, left window seat on a B-737 some years ago. Every seat in the airplane was occupied except the seat next to me. We were moments away from closing the cabin door and I'm sitting there thinking how lucky I was to have a little elbow room

Well, it was not to be. I saw a late boarder enter the front of the airplane and thought, oh well. Then I noticed various male heads popping up and down from the seats like prairie-dogs.

As the lady got closer, it became obvious why all of the ogling was going on. This gal had monster boobs sticking straight out that rivaled Dolly Parton. When she settled into the seat next to me, I had to pull in my right elbow so as not to touch the taboo country. And not I'm exaggerating when I say I could see those things in my peripheral vision when looking straight ahead!

I felt trapped and I could barely move.

I usually don't, but if the person behind me starts bumping the seat, putting the tray up and down a lot, and touches my head when they get up multiple times to go to the bathroom, all the way back it goes.

I sometimes raise the armrest on the isle side and stick my leg out to stretch a little.

I do, otherwise its a lot of pressure on my back. Honestly half the time I recline and even put a small inflatable camping pillow on my lower back too for some lumbar support.

No offense - but it's inconsiderate. If no one reclines their seat, no one has to deal with not being able to eat a sandwich, properly navigate drinks on your tray table, etc.

If you have issues b/c of your height get an exit row or bulkhead.

I legit laughed out loud when I read this. Totally visualized the whole thing. I almost did this to the asshole who was watching whatever video he downloaded without headphones. It's equivalent to the people who walk around in public talking on speakerphone. Rude.

Ive flown probably 2 million miles in my life and I have somehow figured out how to eat a sandwich and/or drink a drink, and even work on a laptop, behind a reclined seat.

Usually on the widebodies for longer flights, where the seats recline more than the little shuttles, the trays can even slide out a bit on arms.

So they recline their seat, I recline my seat, the guy reclines his seat behind me, and we all continue our lives normally slightly more comfortably for a 5 hour flight.

Usually I can work around it too, but if I am traveling with my larger laptop, 15", it is a little difficult to get it fully opened and angled to my eyesite correctly. Phone/Tablet no issue at all.

Didn't know this was an issue. I always recline mine. And would expect the person in front of me to as well - go nuts... It's not something in life that I tend to take time worrying about.

we all have freedom of choice. Just like the mask. People can choose to wear it or not. Do I see it as inconsiderate? no. Some may.

In all reality if you don't want to complain about space get first class.

We had a similar incident where I was jammed in the rear corner and Wifey was in the center. No one on the aisle (we thought). Then at the last minute a 350lb guy who needed a seat belt extender and his equally large wife/gf come down the aisle. The guy squeezes in next to poor Wifey for a long flight. His wife was across the aisle. I thought I was going to suffocate in that corner.
