335i Motorweek MT vs AT 0-60
For those of you going back and fourth on the AT vs. MT debate...Check out this 335i video of the MT vs. AT 0-60 run. The computer controlled AT isn't that fast!

I don't like Motorweeks reviews. They always get some obvious detail wrong, indicating to me that there is no BMW knowledgeable/enthusiastic people on staff. When the E90 was first reviewed by Motorweek, they incorrectly reported the car had a "V6". This video review incorrectly reports the 328i version delivers "320 HP" at 4:42 into the video. Motorweek has an unacceptibly high rate of errors in their reviews for a dedicated automotive reviewer. I see better automotive reporting in the Wall Street Journal.

What they don't tell you is whether they just put the auto in "D" and did the run or yanked it over to D/S and shifted themselves.
We do know that C&D explicity ran the auto tranny in Steptronic mode and found it quicker than the manual. None of it matters to me, though, since I don't intend to spend the days running my 1er up and down a dragstrip from 0-100 and back down again. I want the tranny that most closely replicates the driving experience of the guys slinging F1 and CART cars around road courses. |

I'm not sure I would say "The computer controlled AT isn't that fast" when the difference between the two was 1/10th of a second on 0-60 and 2/10ths for the quarter mile.

My point is simple: The Manual Trans shouldn't be labeled as the Quarter Killer.

"Motorweek" is a fun show to watch, but I certainly don't take them seriously as a source of automotive data. _Car & Driver_ found the 335i Coupe to be faster with the auto, which they rated as one of the best autos in the world (and it's sourced from GM, which I found quite funny).

My current A3 3.2 is equipped with the DSG system, which is arguable the best automated manual on the road today. As great as it is I truly miss a manual gearbox. My advise is give it some serious thought before going to an automatic gearbox.
