Does BMW give out loaners?
Just curious, but if you take your BMW in for service do they give you a loaner? And if so does that only apply if they have to keep it for more then a day? Or do you get one even if it's only going to be there for 1 day?
The main reason I ask is because the BMW dealer is 40+ minutes from my house. So if I have to take it in then I may end up missing an entire day of work unless their shuttle service is going to take me all the way back home and come pick me back up when the car is ready. (doubt it) Dan |

If you are just there for an oil change (aprox 1hr) then maybe not but anything over that and yes they should give you a loaner... Most of the time it will be a BMW but sometimes they will get you a rental car... The availblity will depends on the dealer, so when you make an aptment make sure you request a loaner...
My dealer in NC (crown BMW) would give me a loaner even if they needed the car for 20mins, the dealers here is ATL are a little more stingy and will only do it if they need the car more than 1hr and even then require 1-2 week lead time for the apt with a loaner

the answer is "NO" BMWNA does not require it's dealers to give a loaner.
They give the dealer an allocation to use to put a car into loaner service and it is the dealer's prerogative to give or NOT give you a loaner. Now, in reality most dealers give loaners since it is good for customer satisfaction and the mileage is not a problem IF IN REASON.. some will not give once you are out of warranty. I have used two dealers.. one (Isringhausen) gave a loaner no matter what the reason. The other (DJ) never gave me a loaner since I did not buy the car from them, Even though I was not even living in their area when I bought the cars, they stood fast to "no buy from us, NO LOANER" DJ used loaners as a "perk" and reason NOT to go elsewhere to buy. Needless to say I always gave DJ a "1" on the satisfaction surveys and Isringhausen got 5's across the board. I also made sure to say "the lack of a loaner makes me dissatisfied and would NOT recommend DJ" at the end of the survey when they ask "any other comments"... Even better, at Isringhausen, if I am taking the car in , and they have a car I am interested in buying, I call my SA and he has that car ready to go as my loaner... They were not willing to let me have the 911 GT3 though... |

Dealer specific. I have always had a loaner. But I have a great dealer. To be fair I don't think I have heard of a dealer in Chicagoland that doesn't give loaners. It's sort of a given with BMW.

My dealer told me they will come and drop off a loaner car then steal yours, bring it for an oil change then drop it back off and take the loaner back. Not required of them from corporate but they do it. The dealer also sells maseratis and ferraris and that service comes standard with them so they include it with their bmws. Maybe they will give me a loaner ferrari ;-) Only thing is I have to call a few weeks ahead of time.
Give your dealer a call or shoot them an e-mail. theres a good chance they do it |

I just had an '08 X5 courtesy loaner for 9 days, I had a 335i for a few days recently also. I've had various 3, 5, Z3, Z4, X3, X5 loaners over the last several years. Ultimately it depends on the dealer and availability. If the dealers here don't have a loaner, they give an allowance for a rental car.

Wow, you guys get some nice loaners. Most loaners I get are 328xi and X3 3.0i. The best one I've ever gotten was a E90 330i.
Then there as the time they ran out of loaners and I got a Toyota Matrix. |

By the way. Crevier BMW in Santa Ana touts that it has the largest lineup of Courtesy Vehicles out of any dealership. I would concur. |

Thanks guys, sounds like most BMW dealers give out loaners as long as you have an appointment.
I don't mind waiting an hour for an oil change, but if it's something that's going to take all day I don't want to be stuck at the dealership all day because I live so far away. Dan |
