BMW Performance Cold Air Package, not CAI
135i Cold Air Package (#51740442875)
Air-cooling package that can be added to your 135i. Kit includes both brake air ducts, and engine cooling air ducts to help regulate heat. Is anyone considering this, or better yet, has anyone installed this? I am considering this along with the performance CAI that BMW may release in the future. If anyone knows more information about this, please chime in. Pics of this OEM kit would be great too. Also, if anyone can recommend comparable (or possibly better) kits by other vendors. Thanks! |

Not overly difficult to design your own brake ducting. Only necessary if you seriously track the car to prevent brake fade, but then again, it'd be better to just upgrade the brakes. Engine cooling ducts...drive w/o your hood on? If the engine is overheating, then maybe a better radiator would be better than having a ricey hood with exhaust vents on it. Maybe go with a carbon fiber hood w/the vents. That will also shave off some weight.
CAI - There are better mods than this for the turbo engine. IMO. |

I don't suspect this involves hood vents or any modification to the hood. Can anyone else confirm this?

so this is why there is no 135i cold air intake? they are releasing little bits at a time, and this is first in line?

I wonder what improvements in HP & torque are with this package though. Also, if there are any new sounds with this installed? |

On a turbo, not really. Best power upgrades would be ECU/piggyback, downpipes and catback exhaust. A bit different from a NA motor.

I see no technical, engine related reason, the BMW Performance cold air intake is not released yet. Any technician out there could give me a hint?
Maybe it's just because of some political correctness, e.g. better performance than M3 V8 on a straight or too noisy with the PP exhaust in combo? Damn, I really would like that carbon fibre BMW Performance Part assembled on my car :w00t: |

You are not going to gain any serious hp by modding the intake. The N54 does not work that way. You can get more sound from modding it. It will sound more powerful. DP's and ECU mods will get you more power.

WhiteOne, you are absolutely right, and I don't expect any serious gains from this package, if any. Still would like numbers and confirmation of any improvements...oh, and pics!

The cold air package is mainly to be retrofitted to a tii aerodynamic front bumper. It helps regulate more air to the brakes. The kit consists of ducts.
Intake question: BMW has either post-poned the intake or is no longer planning one for the 135i. I will release more information on this as soon as I find out and am permitted to do so.

Since I do not plan on getting the tii aerodynamic front bumper, I guess I won't be needing this package. Thanks Dan for clearing this up. I do hope the intake is in the works soon!

If you are interested in sound, consider the filter by BMS. Although the Helene supposedly has better performance, I hear the one by BMS has noticeably better sound.

The Helene filter has zero change in sound.
